I am going through a similar long rod build..I want to do daily driver so compression would be about 9.1..Any suggestions for a moderate build ??also, how did the rod/2.2 pistons turn out??

I actually havent fired the motor up, i have nothing to put it in (my Volare is going to just have a stock bottom end with .1and a but bumped off the head to raise the compression up above 9.5:1

as for the big PITA of the longrod build, if you get stock 2.2 pistons, you must bore the slant out .045, and using the turbo pistons yeild you 10:1 compression, the non turbos get you closer to 12:1 compression. "Slantzilla" (dennis) had a longrod motor that was wicked untill that damn mopar cam ate his O/P gear on the hwy and killed the motor :( he ran his motor on the street with 11:1 compression no problems, ran it on 87 on the street, 91 at the track.

its a very efficient motor, but needs some "planning" as to what cam. etc to use for it to be all it can be ;)

I am considering the 2.2 Piston/longrod build as well...
1. How is it that Dennis ran such a high compression on pump gas?
2. Is there a known source for the 198 rods?
3.Are you guys using the J&E 2.2 pistons?

4. I'm guessing that the reasons for this build are - lighter rotating assembly, shorter stroke = higher revs possible, strength of pistons..?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of this build??
What kinda revs are we talking without balancing the piston/rod assembly? With balancing?

5. I have a head shaved .090, w/ steel headgasket, theoretically what is the largest cam lift I can safely run without piston/valve issues? I know it's impossible to give a specific answer but it's an automatic so I wouldn't be going TOO wild anyway. I would go to a 2800-3000 converter at most.

P.S I'm not foolish enough to be looking for cam advice, just want to get an idea of the upper limit...I'm no math wiz

This is not my daily driver anymore, it's on it's way to being my bracket racer...
