On the Block yes - On the Had no. Its a return oil splash area - Nout under pressure. Put thread sealer on the bolt threads there and you should be fine! P.S. No More Norwin Hills Cruise Nite Where to go on Saturday nights with my classic mopars? Greg |

So it would be the lower large bracket that the alternator sits on, right? Its a return oil splash area - Nout under pressure. Put thread sealer on the bolt threads there and you should be fine! P.S. No More Norwin Hills Cruise Nite Where to go on Saturday nights with my classic mopars? Greg Pretty sure we did NOT seal that......I recal that we had not been shure how the combination of washers on our went on....but I do not recall sealing it......crossing my fingers that that is our front leak.....we have oil collecting on the front k member lip....hadn't noticed it before at all, when we had the major rear pan leak. The shop redid the pan and rear main and we started seeing this leak....but for the life of me cannot tell where it would be leaking from up front.....COULD be coming from that bolt , dribbling down etc.....so will have to give it a try I guess. I had been using permatex on stuff that needed sealed...just dont recall us putting anything there because I think we didnt realize it was a bolt that could leak..... yeah, losing Norwin sucks. There were rumours about it being taken over by someone else.....and there was that alternative cruise off of golden mile.....but nothing can replace Norwin. |

Yes to what Greg said and it is one of our more popular leak points on our Slants!
Thanks guys. I have a small window today to putz with this so I am gonna try the black permatex #2......have had great luck with this for other oil and water bolts. Rtv needs a perfectly clean surface and a couple days to cure...neither of which I have.....so crossing my fingers..... |

Ok, well pulled the alternator and it's brackets and found a good amount of oil on the back side of the lower bracket where it bolts to the block....nothing above that area so stands to reason the bolts were leaking. As I was cleaning the area I noticed what appears to be a glob of black rtv BELOW the front alt bracket bolt on the block surface......the block and head were yanked and cleaned etc, so not sure what this is...or why it would be there. There was oil onbit, but that is right below one of the supposedly leaking bolts...... Any ideas why that would be there? Maybe just an erant glob from when the builder put the head on maybe? Anyways, used permatex #2 to seal the bolts after cleaning everything. Gonna let it set til this aftermoon and the drive and see if that fixed the leak. I am praying it isn't whatever that glob is...... |

Well, still have oil from up top but it seems more like it is the headgasket than the bolts or even that glob of rtv.....we also found a small leak at the front of the pan gasket..... I updated my old "first fire but some issues" thread so I wouldnt bogart this one any further. LOL |
