Quote: So your saying if I get a different crank I can put a 727 behind it
That is correct... the 1968-1976 Forged Steel Crank will fit the block and has the proper crank pocket for the 1968-up torque convertor. If your '67 engine is in good shape, you can get a 1968-1976 225 crank kit and replace the crank and bearings and trade your early crank for the "core" if needed. |

Is there a reason why a shop that builds custom converters couldn't make the newer style converter fit the old style crank? |

You can order at any auto parts store... just tell them you want a crank kit for a 1974 Valiant 225 slant six, that will get a large boreforged crank kit. Last one I got from Autozone was a Fed mog kit about $200+ core. Quote: Is there a reason why a shop that builds custom converters couldn't make the newer style converter fit the old style crank?
This is a possibility, but it will be a search to find a quality place to do it, I know that two such places that no longer will offer this service, but did up to 2 years ago...The grapevine up here says to watch who does the work, one of our local mopar guys got one made and the stall was all over the place. |

I'm not up on trucks. Does your truck (318) have a trans, with the transfer case mounted right to the back of the trans, or is the transfer case separet? If the transfer case is mounted to the transmission, you will need to find a slant six 4x4 727 transmission. Then use the 68-76 crankshaft in your engine. If your truck has a V-8 727 with the direct mount transfer case, you can just find a slant six 727 case, and swap all the internals from your V-8 trans, to the slant six case. |

Midwest Converters and Edge Racing used to make those converters, but they stopped due to custom work needed and/or some parts becoming unavailable. Lou |

As far as I know, no one ever made a "hybrid" 727 converter, just 904. Dacco used to list a stock stall "Hybrid" converter for the 904, but it is not listed in their 2017 online catalog. |

The reason I brought this up is I recently had trans and converter work done by A-1 Performance in Vancouver WA (http://www.a-1perf.com/). The trans parts were for my Frankenstein C3 Diesel Corvette. Got a tour of their shop and came away with the impression that they could probably build anything a guy wanted (at a price of course). Among other things they make their own 'billet' converters for hot-rod diesel trucks. Those billet converters look to have the front half of the converter CNC machined from solid so could really be configured any way the buyer wanted. |

That is correct. When I was trying to get another Hybrid converter made, a couple of months ago, I found several places that would build one. However the price was out of the ballpark, except for a typical high dollar race converter. In the $1,000 range. |

The 727 has to be from a Slant 6 not the V8 one. |

Well I got my hands on a slant 6 727 but it needs a rebuild I have a 4x4 727 can I just swap the guts out of the 4x4 to make it a 4x4 trans? |
