Mixes easier than shampoo! I just pour it into hot water and stir it with a stick. Don't dump it in, just pour.

the photos are after soaking for 8 days,,
the molasses mix did a fine job, I am pleased

after I removed the parts I dumped the molasses mix across the back yard grass, we'll see what happens there.

Note: I let the oil pan and tray air dry without rinsing them off while I disposed of the solution,
it adhered rather well to the bare metal, scrubbed it off with a nylon pad and warm water, if you try this, rinse and dry immediately upon removal.

Thanks for your posts and pictures. Had to try it in the water jacket on the 68 head. Mixed up 1qt molasses to a gallon of water. Surprised the jacket did not hold the whole gallon.

After reading this back when the thread was current, I knew I had to give it a try.
Not having any immediate car-related rust removal needs I decided to try it on a discarded trencher tooth I picked up at work.

As you can see I began this experiment on Jan 19 with a dilution ratio of 3:1
I used molasses we had on hand in the kitchen (not the Ag grade molasses) and mixed it in an empty Powerade bottle since I was working with a small part.
Two weeks later it looked like this:

I put it back in the solution and kind of forgot about it. Last night I was putting away some recently purchased supplies when I ran across the Powerade bottle.
Opening the lid, there was a noticeable pressure built up inside. I guess due to whatever reaction was taking place. A quick rinse and towel dry and the piece looks fantastic.

I cant wait to find an actual de-rusting project to try this on.

Yep! That old farmer's trick works well unless there's a good amount of grease. It seems to avoid the areas under the grease. I did a slant exhaust manifold using molasses and it went from junkyard rusty to, well, better. Didn't look factory fresh, unlike my skillet, but good enough to use without having to sandblast.

Once again you inspired me, coconuteater64. I do have something to de-rust. As soon as i finish the modified exhaust manifold I’m gonna soak it. Now I just gotta find a right-sized container. This piece is too big for a standard five gallon bucket.

I used a dollar store kitchen trash can.
