It is a shame it has come to this, this global economy and whatever forces that have brought us to this age where we are left to sort through poor quality products for suitable replacements for our old cars, motorcycles and all other projects. The Chinese are not to blame but someone is. The Chinese can and do produce good quality parts and entire engines for the likes of Honda and others but they come at a higher price point. I think it is more the advancement of the McDonald's-Walmart phenomena where price and quantity drive everything. We are now a large population of consumers of disposable products. OK, soap box put away. Carry on. |

It's really a mix - a bad mix - of tight-A** consumers and greedy executives. On one hand, it's amazing anyone bothers to sell parts for 50 year old cars. If I had to make a living selling $15 brake shoes to whiny old car guys who wanted them for $14, I'd go nuts. On the other hand, it used to be that companies were fine with just getting by. The President of the company lived in the nice house on the hill and drove a new car but that was about it. Now, the President gets a $33 million bonus each year and visits the factory once a quarter if he's in the mood. |
