Well pulled the plugs and have some bad news
First cylinder I tested was 35psi. Second one I tested was 120 psi. So I guess the head really needs to come off now to determine what’s broke.

Stuff like this gets fixed by systematic diagnosis. Random shot-in-the-dark guesses ("It's the timing chain! No, it's the ECU! No, it's the carburetor! The distributor! A burnt valve!") will only cost you time, money, and aggravation and probably not wind up fixing the car. Sudden bad running could be electrical (ECU, distributor pickup, wiring), could be induction (vacuum leaks, EGR leaks), could be fuel (trash in the carburetor)...you really need to do some thoughtful, careful diagnosis before buying more parts. |

Well on the advice of the man himself “Dan” I did some more testing. The cylinder that was low had the exhaust valve open. Tested again and psi went up to about 110!!! So hopefully after a good tune up resetting the valves and a new carb kit, and lastly a exhaust manifold repair I hope things will go back to normal. |

Did the HEI swap finally. At first it ran but was really rough. Then after going through the thread again I swapped the two wires as directed and boom! Runs good but still some work to do. Thanks for everyone’s help and especially Dan who took the time to answer my pm’s |
