Personally I think it would be much easier to have ARP make a run of main studs that are 1" longer that the ones they make now that way you can torque down the mains, then add a second nut to the stud to hold the center of the windage tray in place with no extra studs, drilling etc. That being said, the only issue with this is one ARP stud has to be drilled after installation to keep an oil passage from being blocked. Gregcon, there are racers that are running dry sump set ups, the price makes it out of the reach for daily driver hobbyists. |

Well...I generally use a formula I developed when it comes to my hobbies: 1) Will it cost way more than any one of several methods? 2) Will it make me miserable due to lack of parts and information? 3) Will it later have resale value less than 20% of my outlay, assuming free labor and time spent? 4) Will it have no appreciable effect on my personal sense of satisfaction? If the answer to ALL of those is 'Yes', I jump right in! |

I discussed trays and scrapers at great length with Mike once. He was of the impression that a tray may help a little over 4000 rpm. I have run my old motor with and without one. Didn't see much difference. I have both tray and scraper in it now. Mike was of the belief that it was worth less than 7 horsepower. The Johnson guy that makes the scrapers used to make some wild claims on here. I challenged him to post dyno sheets or some kind of proof and he had a meltdown. I even have one of his scrapers. I have no clue what's in the motor in the car. It ain't broke yet so I haven't taken the pan off. I do have the last tray Mike did. I probably should sell it, but I keep it for sentimental reasons. |
