Rick, I flowed a slant head for Volaredon that had IIRC 318 valves and garage porting, I don’t remember what seats he had in it. It had decent numbers. Maybe Don will see this and post the info. |

The Engine builder valves are 1.7 & 1.4 or 1.44. I have that set up on my "back up" race engine that I installed in my truck. I spent @ 12-15 hours on the porting if I remember correctly. But I always wished I had it flowed. However it is not likely I would pull it just to test it. |

I have that info at home , I'm not there right now. No 318 valves, just 318 springs. I have the SI oversized valves. Same 1.70/1.44 sizes you referenced. |

Quote: 200 CFM is very good, and should be good for around 300HP
If HP calculators are anywhere near correct, Ryan's 11.00 runs produce @ 324 HP by ET, and @ 308 by mph.

I contacted the flow bench guy here and he is ready to look at my head, the one off the engine, not the other one. $50 bucks to do 1 intake and 1 exhaust. I have no idea if that is the going rate, but sounded reasonable to me. I will let you know what he finds. |

Not sure of the going rate, but it sounds reasonable to me as well!$50 bucks to do 1 intake and 1 exhaust. I have no idea if that is the going rate, but sounded reasonable to me. I will let you know what he finds. Now the real question... if it flows poorly how do you know what to do? I suppose you could mess a head up real good by taking too much material off or off in the wrong place. Greg |

Yes, the age old question. I will listen to his recommendations and take it from there. This head was a last minute build after I had those 2 other heads with problems. So I was not too concerned about peak performance. I have another here that I will be installing with bronze walls and thin stem valves. I plan to just do minimal porting in all the recommended areas, nothing overly excessive. |

$50 is plenty cheap! I think I paid $80 4 or 5 years ago. I think all 3 of our heads were tested on #3 cylinder. I have no idea why? I just know Mike did # 3 and had the others done on the same cylinder. |

Just a guess, but 3 or 4 would be the easiest to get the head mounted on the bench. |

Yes, trying mount it on #1, especially with a heavy Slant head would turn the flow bench over...! LOL |

I finished the engine on my son's Honda last week so now back on the Colt. I dropped the head off at the flow bench yesterday. He was not too impressed with my 318 valves and the guides in the head. Neither am I but that was not the reason for dropping it off with him! I was surrounded by about a million aluminum heads in his shop. I guess it's easy to make horsepower when summit-edelbrock-trick flow-etc drop race ready parts off at your door. Details to follow. |

Stan, actually he's busy because those shiny aloominum heads are not race ready when delivered. |
