Andrew, I would love to meet up at VIR or another course this spring. I have been out on VIR twice so far, and it is an amazing track - never been to the 'Point. Would be fun to chew the hide and run the Darts around together, much to the high $$/new cars' dismay...

I will probably try the TE04H to start with. I may get you to make me a modified stock manifold sometime soon.

Tom, I know it is different running a turbo on a road course, and there are many thoughts on driving technique just for turbo cars. Coupla big things are keeping the revs up (obviously) during downshifting and being careful to adjust for the boost coming on and giving power oversteer on mid corner exit. I would like to try a relatively small turbo first for a broad torque curve and less problems with boost peak.

Lou

I dont know, I think you will have problems with that turbo. I think You will have to do some porting on the wastegate hole just so you can control the boost. Other wise you will overspin the turbo, and you wont be able to control the boost pressure. You can always try it and see how it works, just be carefull when you start driving tha car, otherwise you might overboost and go into major detonation. If you are going with an external wastegate none of this really matters. If it was me though, I would sell the turbo on E-bay and purchase a t-3 .63 housing from an 83-86 turbocoupe, cougar, SVO, turbo GT or Merkur XR4ti. Anyway you go good luck and tell us how it works out for ya.

Shawn

we will have to plan that soon. If you did have to switch turbos I have the t3 that shawn is talking about. It has a new center sect.

I think an external wastegate would be a wise choice.

Just my .02.

Shawn, can you explain why the wastegate wouldn't work to control boost pressure? I assume the higher airflow from the larger motor is the issue? I will plan on running a BTM ignition or something more sophisticated to control detonation proportional to boost. Thanks.

Andrew, I may be interested in that turbo for my first attempt. I'll look into events at VIR for next spring (probably NASA or my local Tar Heels club - www.thscc.com). Feel free to email me at - lmadsen@email.unc.edu.

If he had forged pistons, I would say go for it, but running that much boost on cast pistons is ridiculously, utterly stupid.
I run 22 psi on pump on my stock cast pistons, but then again, it's a different car, so it all depends on how good the stuff is from the factory. I'd run 25 psi on race gas but my turbo isn't as efficient at that pressure.
