Dennis and Reed, thanks for the encouragement.
I now have the replacement slant six on the engine stand, almost in the upright position.
Question: Right now the replacement slant doesn't have the intake and exhaust manifolds on it.
Can I install them now, before the engine is swapped in? Is this a good idea?
It seems like it would be easier from a labor standpoint.

Let me know, thanks!

I rarely use an exhaust manifold, but if you put the motor in with them on, it might make a couple bellhousing bolts a little tougher to get in, but nothing too serious.

I've put them in with and I've put them in without, not a lot of difference, except for it might be easier to get at the bottom center intake bolts while on a stand.. the last couple of manifolds I pulled were on a volare (not mine) in a junkyard
Hey Wes a question
Would you have any "doubles" / extras for AC brackets?
Once you're in and running let me know if you do.
But don't get rid of them til you have the replacement in place, make sure they're gonna be "extras" first.
What's with the replacement engine? Freshly overhauled? Hopped up? Low mile takeout? None of those?
Now you gonna rebuild the original and hop that one up to go back in at some point? Plenty of builds and people who have been there to guide you right here if you do ..

Hey Don,
I was thinking it would be easier to get at some of those manifold bolts while its on an engine stand.
The replacement slant six is a low mileage engine. I just want to get the Volare back on the road for now.
I’m pretty sure I don’t have any AC brackets, but I’ll keep a lookout as I go through my parts.
Thanks for your response!

I’ll keep the original slant, its got a lot of miles on it, and it was smoking the last time it ran.
So I guess it would need to be bored and honed at a machine shop.
But thats for the future.

So this weekend I installed the intake/exhaust manifold on the replacement slant six.
I also put the 2 bucket seats back in.
I'm just doing what I can til I have time, and help, to do the engine swap.

So today, I removed the radiator, fan, and fan shroud.
I also unbolted the alternator and laid it to the side.
I removed the two cables from the starter.
Oh, and I removed the old battery which will be a core.

I thought about removing the hood, but I'm thinking I should wait til I have some help.

So, little by little.

Onward!

If any of you have any suggestions as to what I should do next, feel free to comment.

Thanks in advance!

Have you taken the grille out? They break very easily.

The grille has been gone for a while.
I do have a couple of grilles for an '80 Volare, they're on a shelf.
And I do have a hood from an '80 Volare, its kind of rusty though.

I got a couple spare grilles with mine. Both have pieces missing.
