Make sure you have the rebuild kit in hand when you start disassembly. There are many versions of these carbs over the years. Look at the instructions to see what versions are covered. When taking it apart, try to match up the gaskets with the new ones as there are extras in there that may not match yours. Having a clean open space to work with and to organize the small pieces is crucial. I bought that gallon of cleaner to dip the parts and it worked well. Take your time and review the rebuild instructions. It helps to have a factory manual for the car you are working on. These books cover carb rebuilds. I rebuilt my first carb a couple of months back and it worked fine. Stick to the measurements given for adjustments and you should be fine. As for the way it works, that's it. The engine vacuum will draw the air and the metered fuel through the intake manifold and into the combustion chamber when the intake valve opens. |

Don't be scared. Try it, you'll like it. As all other members have advised follow instructions carefully and you will do a fine job of rebuilding your BBD. Read also The 1973 1 1/4" BBD Carburetor "booklet" at the following URL. It is a very comprehensive reference that explains why each carb adjustment is important and points out what performance and starting problems can occur if adjustments are incorrect. Excellent reading material, you will learn a lot from it. http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/ ... /intro.htm Enjoy |

Glad to be able to contribute with info if not with expertise I don't have. I'm also in the learning process. Yes www.imperialclub.com has a lot of usefull information. Try also www.dippy.org . I think that with the huge amount of information on car repair and how to's for our 25-30 year old units contained in these links we can learn and do a lot of good to ourselves and our babies. Cheers |

Two bolts under carb body get loose very quickly after rebuild. You should tighten them after few days of use. |

I finished the rebuild last night. The carb looks so clean and happy. I'm bolted it back on the intake tonight and see if it works. I'm sort of excited about it. Thanks everyone for the advice and words of encouragement. One day, I'll pull the engine! |
