The science of thermodynamics has the following equation:

..................(mR*) x Temp
Pressure = ------------------
........................Volume

* this is constant for a particular gas mixture - in this case, essentially a mixture of nitrogen, carbon dioxide & water vapor

since the volume of the exhaust system from the head to the turbine doesn't change, for a particular setup, the equation could be considered to be

..................(mR*)
Pressure = --------- x Temp OR
..................Volume

Pressure = [a constant number] x Temp

Therefore pressure increases directly with increased absolute temp.

Since pressure differential across the turbine is what defines the potential energy available to drive the compressor, high temps are desireble for maximum turbo output.

Joe,

I wouldn't mind seeing some pictures, if at all possible.... and maybe some info on that killer ford 6 (any of it apply to a slant 6?).../

Thanks!
:D

I was reading this over because I'm also planning a turbo /6. I don't know much about turbo's, but I do know alittle. I was planning on running two turbo's off on 2.2 engines. From what I've read this will make them spool faster and give more boost. Is there any reason that I'd be wrong to try this set up? The car will most likely be a weekend cruiser for serious street racing and the occasional trip to the drag strip.

I'm also wondering about if I should run a 4-speed or just a 727/904? I'm a big stick shift fan, that's what all my cars have...I'm just wondering if it will seriously hamper my ability to maintain boost during shifts, or spool up off the line. Thanks in advance for any assistance, just reading these boards has already answered TONS of questions! :D

I'm considering the same build but with efi and auto trans. My buddy has a 5 speed behind the rb26 in his datsun and there's definitely no problem keeping boost up there, BUT the rb26 is engineered as a full blown turbo motor. I think Andrew has a 4 speed in his dart and he does pretty good.
Some people will say your wrong for trying this build because there's a lot of plumbing involved, you'll need to build or buy a good set of turbo headers. You will also hear that two will not spool that much quicker then one larger turbo. With any turbo there will be fuel delivery problems (which is why I'm thinking efi).

Whatever you decide good luck and keep us updated

Thanks for the info Welly! I don't wanna hijack this post any further, so I'm gonna start another thread now and post the exact set up I'm planning. Then maybe some people can see how many flaws I have in my thinking! :)
