couple of horsepower. I seem to remember the numbers for a fixed fan were something like 7-10 horsepower.

slightly more for electric fan because even when the clutch is disengaged, the viscous fluid in the bearings has a little bit of drag that spins the fan some (it's never 100% disengaged)

How did this topic get on the subject of fan clutches?

Then there are those of us who can't use either a clutch fan or and electric fan.

Since I have air conditioning on my '64 Valiant, there is no room for an electric fan in front of the radiator. There is also no room between the radiator and pump shaft for either a clutch fan or an electric fan.

With the tiny 4-blade fan and A/C operating, the car will overheat when driving slow. I haven't yet found a 5-blade stock fan and I'm not fond of flex fans, so I put up with the problem.

Well, not much, but technically you don't gain much on an older car either. A fan is a fan whether it be on a new car or an old car and there's only so much new technology can do to that system. The main thing with a new car is that when you have 140 horse power stock you're not going to care too much if you gain 1-2 horses, on an engine that's 90 hp stock any help that can be gotten semi-cheaply is nice.
