We took the Duster and Dart to Reynolds Saturday....

We got the Dart down to a 14.99 with a solid string of 15.0s.

The Duster's 1st pass with the new motor was a disappointing 18.40. I advanced the timing and it went 17.98. After a few runs I started shifting manually at 4800-4900 RPM and got it down to a 17.46. I tried one last run of the evening and it sputtered at about half track and I let off. Still seems to run okay, but a little rough. I'll pop the valve cover when I get a chance and check valve lash, etc. Movers are packing my tools, etc as I type this, so we'll see...
Not quite what I was hoping for, but I don't have time to fiddle with it now.

I have made a few phone calls for a Slant 6 race this Saturday, but no one has committed. The track folks told me to contact Lawrence Roundtree since he's running the show. I'll try to call him this week.

Later,
Rob

Rob I wish Renolds could come on another date but it didnt. I am going for the Championship and have to be in Bristol. Thanks Ron Parker

Why is everyone down on Bristol?

Also does promoting a slant 6 race and offering $$$ that competes with a points series race make any sense? Seems like you are are hurting the series more than helping it by doing this.

I am not down on Bristol. I have been to the race at Bristol 3 years in a row. It is a great facility, and a great race. For me, it is a matter of economics. I am in central Florida, and Reynolds GA. is about 300 miles. Bristol is over 600 miles.
Reynolds is also a nice place, with nice people. They have had their Mopar race on Memorial Day weekend for a number of years. I was there last year, and also the Bristol race. This year Bristol changed their date, and since I am unable to make the long tow to enough point races, to compete for top 10, it does not make sense for me to travel twice as far. For the three years I raced in the point series, there was a race in Georgia, which had excellent turnouts. For some reason this year there is none. Maybe in the future we could have a slant six points race at Reynolds, that does not conflict with any other date. But there would have to be enough interest.

I completely understand that.

Who sets the schedule and why did they remove the Ga race?

I think the schedule is discussed at the banquet. I don't know what happened with the GA race for this year, but the last three years it was at 3 different tracks. Silver Doller Raceway was very receptive to haveing a slant six race during thier Mopar meet, but there was a problem with it being the week after Columbus, and then the conflict with the Bristol race, which has been a regular meet on the circuit, being moved.
Hopefully, a slant race can be set up in either south/central GA or north Florida. There are a lot of slanters in GA, and some in Florida, that would travel 4 or 5 hours, but not 10 hours or more.

Ditto most of what Charlie said... I'm not down on Bristol either, just want to see some action here in GA and I want to run with some other slant sixes... I'm torn on this weekend. My job has got me s t r e s s e d and if it's as screamin' hot and humid here as it was last weekend, it'll make things unpleasant. Charlie, are you gonna be able to make it?

I got the ignition upgrades done. Today I will try to get the new bearings on a set of axels, and install them. Also mount a spare set of slicks. Tomorrow do some work on the trailer, and load the RV. Thur, get a do the leftovers. So far looks good, for my being there. Should get there early Fri afternoon.

OK, that's two other guys, at least (forgive me if I left someone out, it's early AM ;))... Now I feel some sort of obligation to be there since I sorta stirred this up. Now as to what DAY... I've been invited to something Saturday nite and I have to RSVP... Rob, will your contingent still be around Sunday? Should I shoot for Friday nite?

We will be there Saturday, but not Sunday. We are still planning on Friday night as well.

I certainly am not trying to compete with or take anything away from Bristol. If I weren't moving to Germany two days after this event I would be at Bristol.

The movers are packing all of my tools as I type this.

Sorry if anyone feels that I'm taking something away from the Bristol points event. That was not my intent by offering a purse.

I just spoke to Lawrence Roundtree from the Moparts Connection. He is very receptive to adding a Slant 6 race for Saturday and might even kick in a little something. We can work the details out among us on Saturday to see how we want to run it.

I will be there Friday night with a really ugly dark blue with black spots Duster that says "GodsRods" on the side. We will be under a white canopy with a "GodsRods" banner.

If anyone reading this was planning on going to Bristol, don't change your plans to come to Reynolds, okay? :D

I won't have computer access after today so I'll see you all this weekend.

OK, I'll try to be there Saturday with the ugly green-with-black-spots Duster... ;) Haven't done a thing to it since I ran it last year, so it'll still be high 15's, but it should still be fun. Can we get a group discount somewhere on Duster paint jobs??

What time should I show up for getting dialed in? I looked at the schedule, and didn't see any times for anything. Doesn't the racing usually start in the afternoon? Charlie, I know what you and your car look like (if it is the same Barracuda I saw when I met you), is there somewhere/time that the /6 guys should hook up? Thoughts?

I'm not only going to miss Bristol, but it appears Reynolds is out for me this year also. The timing chain went in my tow truck which put me a day behind. Then the A/C at my house went Tuesday nite. This is my 3rd day I have had to stay here at the house for the repair work. :( I still need to get new tires on the truck and trailer with this 3 day delay, there went the time I needed to ready.
