The dash and steering column have returned to their rightful places, although they need some cleaning up. I also have the V-8 cable operated gas pedal mounted and ready to go. And the door latch mechanisms were glass beaded and look like new. I have a little more sanding to do on one of the doors and then Rob can shoot some color on them and the front fenders.

I trial fit my new windshield rubber and it looks like it fits really well. i brought it inside for the night so it stays nice and pliable for tomorrow. If Ryan and Micah are able to give me a hand I would like to get the windshield and the rear glass in tomorrow.

Yesirree Bob, the windshield is in. The rear will be tackled another day. Had to do some non slant work on my son's Toyota van. Got to keep all the families vehicles runnin! :) Who had all them kids anyhow!

The windshield went in without any real trouble. The last 8" at the top were fun but it didn't get broken. As Fopar said I used plenty of soapy water. I knew I needed a non metallic tool to work the rubber into place and I found a very nice tool at Big lots. It is a tool that painters use and it is stiff (feels like steel) but is coated with rubber and the sides taper down to a nice thin point that can be worked into the weatherstrip. the outer 3/8" of the tool is all rubber so it is good if you slip or something. I think it worked great plus it was perfect for putting in the chrome lock strip. $3 at big lots. I'm going to buy another one or two.

The must have tool to put in your tool box!

My son Denny came over this morning and gave me a hand installing the rear glass. It almost fell into place even though the rubber was the original 46 year old stuff. I installed the new chrome lock strip and it looks nice. I can't find my corner caps for the lock strip but I know they will turn up sometime. I cut the ends on an angle so it doesn't look to bad.

I also made a new package tray out of aluminum and painted it. Installed both rear side windows that had been pulled out to paint around the frames. I ordered my trunk weatherstrip and should be able to mount the trunk this week. I need to finish sanding a little bit on the inside of one door and get them to the paint shop.

Since I got the airport tug today, I will probably get to work on it this week so I can get the scrap to the junk yard. Monday evening Ryan and I are going to swap out his transmission in his Dart and try and get it ready for Mason Dixon.

Thanks for listening!

Rick

Where did you find the chrome lock strips Rick? I thought they were long discontinued.

I got them off E-bay. I just ordered the rear one last week and had it in 3 days. It was "precision" brand if I recall. It was listed for 63-66 A-body. I thought it looked fine. I know some people who are building "mint" show cars may say it is not correct, but compared to what most people have left after 45 years it is mint to me.

Rick
I can check the E-bay seller if you need it. I also have about 3 or 4 feet left if someone wants a small piece to see what it is like , let me know.

E-Bay seller - mopar9999, Firestone Collectibles / He has 8 of them available as we speak. $25 + shipping

I would guess these are just the 70s Chevy truck lockstrip. You can get this at about any glass shop by the foot. It is slightly smaller width than the stocker, but very close. Seems like maybe someone is making the correct stuff, but I'm not so sure.

Lou - "It is slightly smaller width than the stocker, but very close."

If someone has an original and can measure the width, I will check what I bought. Honestly this fit pretty snug. I wouldn't have wanted it much tighter. It took longer to install the lock strip than the rear glass.

If I remember, I can bring a little piece of the old used original stuff.

I finished the final sanding of the inside of the doors and took them to the painter Friday evening. At noon on Saturday I picked them up and brought them home. I'm really pleased with how they came out. I started putting the hardware back in them and hopefully can get the doors mounted this week.

Got all the parts off the Tug and hauled it to the scrap yard yesterday too.

I have a 64 and the front lockstrip is really bad................

Is the lockstrip the same for front and rear?

What did you do where the ends meet on the front?

thanks

I used the same lockstrip front and rear. Each kit comes with a cover for over the ends. That works for the front because you start in the middle of the glass and have a single piece. The rear has to be cut at the lower rear corners because it is a sharp corner. There are corner covers from the factory but I just angle cut mine because I couldn't find my covers.

Got to do a little more on the car today. (This week has been hectic) Anyway I got both doors hung and installed everything in the Passenger side. Still need to drop the window and wing glass in the drivers side. I made some panels out of sheet aluminum to cover all the holes on the side of the car behind the rear windows. These led into the trunk so now it is all sealed up. Since it won't have a headliner anytime soon these panels also dress it up a bit. Rob (Painter friend) stopped by and took a look at the progress. He will likely get the fenders done next week. If I get the time to do the final sanding on the underside of the trunk and hood he will paint them at the same time

Wing glass finally made it home

Starting to look like a real car again!
