Here is the picture of the can that I promised you Ron. I am not sure I like it on my truck all that well, but it can stay for a while.

I also wired in my electric fan switch, so that the fan turns on and off automatically. That way I don't forget to turn it on. I installed it in the factory 1/8" NPT tap for the idiot light. There is not a lot of switch choices for the 1/8" size thread. This one is supposed to be on at 180 and off at 165 degrees. That is a little low but as it turned out in the real world it is actually kicking on about 195 and off at 180, which is great for my truck. With my crossflow radiator the fan won't run all that much anyway. Right now when I drive it it does not come on at all.(20-30 degrees). White wire is the trigger ground for the fan relay, and the black wire is just ground.

I thought I would need to change the speedo gear in the truck after I went from 3.21 to 3.55 rear end but such is not the case. I took my wife's GPS unit and ran it down the road and it was dead on at 55 MPH. That was cool. nothing to do!
Sure runs sweet!

I think that the truck and driver need to go on a Mo-Kan road trip in April.

Sure is a nice truck, you did a great job.

Thanks Mark! I am really pleased with it. I have run it about 150 or so local miles just working out the kinks. I fixed a tiny antifreeze leak today and have the transmission shifting like I want, so I think I am ready for a little longer trip. But Mokan is a bit more than I little trip.
I would sure like to meet up with you sometime and see the Lancer in person! But that is just such a loooonnngggg way from PA.  Maybe Clay City some year?

Just a little update. I am super pleased with how my truck runs. I find myself just looking for a reason to drive it around. Honey don't we need some milk??  I checked the mileage one time on about a 75 mile run and it was about 13. I know that is a short run, plus I have a hard time driving it "for mileage" if you know what I mean. Likely it will get 15 or 16 and that will be fine with me.
One thing I did not mention was that the truck seems to handle very nicely as well. I guess with all new everything up front and good shocks it should handle better than I remembered. I believe I am going rob the sway bar off my black truck before it is sold and it should really carve the curves. Lou should like it!
Can't wait to hit the strip and see what it runs. Low - mid 17's maybe? :?: :?:

Here is the build overview.

Stock Bottom end I got from Charles Brooks
Engine builder valves, and mild pocket porting
Reground Oregon #819 cam, .437 lift, 219 @ .050 on both lobes
Sorry, can't remeber the CR. But I have 165-170 cranking pressure
Cylinder head planed .110
Weiand 4 barrel intake, 600 Edlebrock (secondaries unhooked)
Modified Hooker Super Comp headers with 2 1/2" exhaust & turbo muffler
HEI ignition and a special DI distributor curve for towing
904 with stock convertor and HD internals, Shifts are very firm (Thanks Charles)
8 3/4 rear with 3.55 sure grip. Will be swapping on 11X3" rear brakes in the future.
Weight is @ 3550 if I remember correctly

PS. Pretty temping to get a little higher stall convertor! But I think I better remember the goal. Good running more powerful Slant 6 powered tow vehicle.

Thanks for listening.

Nice! I am itching to get wrenching on my 76 shortbed. Sounds like you put together a good package.

Yes the only thing I need to change on the engine is Carb. I think a 500 will be perfect for my combo!

What is the part number (and source) for the fan switch you put on the head? I might just do the same on mine.

I'll get you the part number. The company name is American Volt on E-Bay. Here is the one I got. Not a whole lot of options in the 1/8" NPT size.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/231534349103

Just keeps getting better. I hooked up the 4 barrel secondaries and the thing runs even better! Woo Hoo! Still need to get a 500 on it though. I got an E-bay bid on one so got the fingers crossed.

I have been running the truck around every chance I get. So I drove it over to my Mom's and took the interstate for about 10 miles each way to test out my cruising at 65 -70 MPH. It runs nice at 60-65 with the 3.55 rear. At 70 -75 you can tell it is running a little harder. Not sure I'd want to drive 300 miles to Bristol like that.

But on the way home, I had a nice stretch of clear road on the interstate just before my exit and I gave it the hammer! Just as a test mind you! But I ran it up to 90 and it ran silky smooth with no funny noises or vibrations. So I guess it is now ready for someone to race it at Mason Dixon.
