Rick, what kind of RPMs do you think you are hitting when the belt comes off? |

I saw on the neighbor's car in the pits Saturday (the Nice Red Duster that you were pitted next to) he just had a little bracket on the pulley that kept the v belt from jumping up. It did not rotate or have a smooth bearing / pulley on it or anything. I think what you propose should work fine. Greg |

Where do you get large pulleys and how hard are they to install (how do you do it)? I see no problem with a larger pulley, since you don't need huge charging power at idle. Lou |

If Rick is running one of those mini alternators (Denso), then most any bolt on alternator pulley will work. There are quite a few varieties for the GM applications that should work. |

Rick Has a mini Denso Alt. On the Denso Alts you just impact off the retaining bolt and the pulley slides right off.. no press fit like the chryco Alternators... It's easy. Greg |

Yes plenty of pulleys out there. I run 6200-6400 tops. But after I replaced the belt in in the pits, it made 3 runs and then flew off after my run was over and I turned off the track. That is where it came off. Not so much during the 6200 rpm phase of the race. Of course everything is a little tweaked now. So I plan to pull the front off and make a little thicker plate and then add the larger pulley. Thanks |

Rick, what got bent? The alternator bracket or the oil pump mount? |

Just the aluminum bracket. It was 1/4' thick. I have a piece of 3/8" and will make wider through some of the areas that I can to stiffen it up. Doing some quick measurement, it looks like the water pump pulley needs to go back" .080 or the balancer need to come forward .080" . I hate to move the water pump because I would need to do it to every one I ever put on the engine. But I hate to remove the balancer and add a spacer because of all the oil pump drive stuff I need to remove. But I will probably pull the balancer. Cutting 3/8" aluminum by hand is slow task too!  Hood is off so I will trace those bracket arms that some of you wanted too. |

Wow, I have pics of that mount. Hard to believe it bent. Do you think you could try another water pump pulley? Maybe the one you have is just made a little 'off'. |

I think the fan belt came off and then went into the oil pump belt. Once it got there the slack for the fan belt to pass around had to come from some where. So it just bent the bracket forward. Yes plan to try another pulley |
