Reflecting back on a nice weekend in Wilkesboro to honor Ron, I just remembered something. Last time the Banquet was at Ryan's gym up here in PA, Ron and Kay came up. We had a big ole swap meet and Ryan sold a bunch of stuff but bought a like new race seat and cover from Ron. When I lightened my car winter before last I bought it from Ryan and put it in my car. So this past weekend, while I lucked into two races, our friend Ron was not there, but I was ridin in his seat! :D Sure do miss you my friend.

Car ran pretty much flawless and made about 9 or 10 passes I guess. No redlights! :D First run was a test run to verify that all the front engine parts that I made and changed stayed put and didn't fly off. So I only turned about 5500 rpm and it was fine. Ran a 8.31 @ 80.4mph. The whole rest of the weekend I ran at 5900-6000rpm and the car ran 8.15 @82.5 best to 8.24 worst. It was very consistent and predictable with the cooler air in the evenings bringing the fastest times. (And breakouts!)

As soon as I got home I pulled off the steel trunk lid and brackets and began making my aluminum hinges for my fiberglass trunk lid. Here is one done, and one to go. I will glass on some brackets to my trunk just like I did the hood and have two hood pins to keep it in place. More to follow.

PS. Already spoke to Robbie (paint guy) and he is ready to paint it as soon as it is mounted on the car! :D :D

It is possible that they just felt sorry for me and let me win?? :D :D

Although my average of all my lights was .051. Not bad for me, since I was napping on a couple of my time runs! :D :D

Thanks very much for your thoughts on the weekend, Rick. You did so well and your wins were well deserved! I would love templates of the hinges but no hurry. Man, that dinner Sat night was fun too!

I got the hinges all done and the brackets Epoxied and glassed to the trunk lid. Only thing I need to do is make the "bumpers that it will rest against and the hood pins. You may not need the bumpers on a heavier trunk lid, but this is a race weight item and it has a little more flex at 10#. :D The hood surface looks like really nice quality too. I may need to sand a little more clearance on the side facing the rear glass. It is a little close to the sheet metal in that area.

I got the trunk lid all done today. Trimmed about 1/8" off the back edge where the green tape is shown. Put a small tab in the center underside for the prop rod. Also put some round rubber washers between the hood pins and the deck lid to protect the paint when completed. Then I block sanded the whole thing and it was amazingly flat. :D :D Now it is up to the paint man when he want the car. :D :D

These bolt heads will get cut off once the hood pins are on for good. Rob will removed them to paint for sure.
