I can 3D print pretty large and high resolution files down to .004" per layer with mine and a usable 16"W x 16"L x 9"H build platform, but it isn't practical to try to print the whole head footprint with one. A CNC router or CNC mill is more conducive for that to make the larger patterns out of wood or aluminum because the plastic will distort too much when ramming the sand in the core boxes, i've already tried it and it doesn't work very well. All the patterns and cores for my inline Chevy 6 cylinder head are machined out of aluminum. |

Does anyone actually have a 3D model of the stock cylinder head that they're willing to share? |

It would really be pointless to make one of the stock head. But I have been working on a Solidworks 3D model of a race Slant head. |

New Y Block cylinder heads are $2,250 a pair. If you can beat that price, then there might be a chance. For a slant six, you might ask "Y" Edlebrock has new 5.7/6.1 Hemi heads, claiming an extra 60 horsepower over stock. All that money for 60 hp? http://www.ford-y-block.com/ You need to revisit the stock slant six layout if you want the cost to be anywhere near affordable. But all that money for 60 hp? Just do it and surprise us! |

That's a 60 HP increase right out of the box, but 80-100 more over the stock heads when ported. Your paying for the total potential increase for that price, so it's a bargain. But it's hard to sell an over the top part to a customer base that only values their engines at only $100 or less, so its hard for companies like Edelbrock and others to be enthusiastic when approached to make products for them....Talking about the Slant 6 of course!

This all leads back to the comment that has been made many times before- IT IS MORE EFFECTIVE TO PORT AND WORK WITH THE STOCK CAST IRON HEADS THAN TO PURSUE PIPE DREAMS ABOUT MASS PRODUCED ALUMINUM HEADS. It just isn't going to happen. Further, for what would be the cost of an aluminum head, you could rework a stock head, convert to fuel injection, AND install a turbo or supercharger. Let the fools who have thousands of dollars burning a hole in their pocket spend money on aluminum heads. The rest of us have to put in the time and effort and get creative. |

There are worse things to do with your money I suppose. I work with a guy that spent $15K on a Bass boat so he could go sit out on the lake for hours and hours at a time and catch a bunch of fish only to let them all go. That's just stupid! Spending money on your hot rod to go faster always makes more sense... |

Lots of people buy new cars every 3-6 yrs, giving something like $3000-10,000/yr in just new car ownership cost (not counting repairs/maint, higher insurance, gas, loan interest, etc). I would rather spend $$ on hipo parts... Lou |
