Thanks, Dartman63. I've been having a lot of fun with it. Haven't spent much time on it lately but hope to get back after it this fall. |

Wow, it's been too many years since I've posted. This project has been interrupted (as they often are) by other projects. I got the Cuda all fixed up and running with a different lightly built slant and sold it last February. With that car out of the way I'm back on task with the turbo motor. The new victim is a 1991 S-10 pickup. Lately dubbed the SS10 or SlantSixTen. Here's the build thread --> https://www.s10forum.com/threads/ss-10.855639/ Corvette IRS in the back, turbo Slant in the front. Wheelbase shortened to ~95" Here's a first mockup The end result looking a little bit like this truck that I photochopped - It won't be quite THAT short. |

If you wanted a wheelbase that short I would have started with a 96.2" wheelbase C4 Corvette. |

I've already built one crazy motor swap Corvette --> https://www.dieselplace.com/threads/die ... ed.800234/Didn't seem like any fun to do it again. |

I've been reading about your diesel C3. That is a huge amount of work. The great thing about a C4 is it already has C4 suspension, brakes, rack and pinion steering, etc. The slant doesn't have the width issues of the 6.2/6.5 so it seems much easier as a swap prospect. Some carving to make room for the crank damper would be needed, rear sump oil pan and a straight water outlet, but that's cake compared to the fab work the C3 needed. |

The C3 looks sooo much better and more unusual compared to the C4. Lou |

I didn't buy mine because it was a looker although I do find it handsome. If you look at old SCCA results you'll see that C4s perform very well and are classed much higher compared to the older ones. A late C4 is light years ahead of anything else you can get for short money.

Have seen the Corvette up close. Totally awesome and impressive!!! Is neat, clean and orderly; looks like it came from the factory that way. Fred |

A late C4 is light years ahead of anything else you can get for short money.Lou I loved how it handled. Like a 3300 lb go cart. Light years better than the C3. The deal breaker for me was the headroom. I'm NOT tall at 5'8" but I would regularly hit my head on the glass roof. Especially when driving aggressively. Leaning the seat back far enough to avoid head bumps didn't work for my preferred driving position. I'm kinda at my Corvette saturation point. I have the diesel C3 and a C6 daily driver. Building a slant powered C4 just doesn't hold enough appeal to motivate me to take on that job. Not different enough from what I already have. |

I'm somewhat surprised that the diesel wasn't going to make it into the C4 as there have been big block C4s. I hear you on the headroom and the Corvette saturation. I'm 6' tall and the seat is as low as it can go to get any headroom. If I were to build something slant 6 powered and stock bodied it would be a '64 Valiant or early Barracuda. A Track-T style roadster appeals to me. If I found a nice aluminum block I might have to do it. |

The big blocks are slightly wider but the diesel is at least a couple inches longer. The first obstacle was having to move the steering rack several inches forward. Maybe I wouldn't balk so much about that now but at the time it was daunting. I didn't want to screw up the sweet steering geometry. Also there's much less under hood space in the C4 for stuff like turbo and plumbing. I traded off the C4 and picked up the C3 because I could pretty much visualize solving all the major swap obstacles before getting started.

Ooof. I didn't know the 6.2/6.5 was that long. |

The C4 rear suspension batwing is in and and after many different test fits I finally settled on the motor location and made cradles for the motor mounts. |

Very nice. What is the wheelbase and what will be the driveshaft length? I did not know the C4 rear axle and IRS was pre-transaxle. Wonder if that would fit into an A-body with some hacking... Lou |

Wheelbase is 95-1/2". That's 1/2" shorter than the C4 Corvette. The driveshaft will be about 25" between the u-joints.Lou One big issue fitting the C4 rear to an A-body would be the width. Early C4 rears are 62" between wheel mounting surfaces. That's what? 5" wider than the stock rear axle? Some folks have had success narrowing them but that adds a big complication. The S10 starts out even narrower but in my case I've purchased some wider front control arms (3" each side) from Fatmanfab. That will keep the track similar front and rear. I'll just have to add some big fender flares. |
