If you can afford it, go for it.

I have never purchased a new vehicle (closest I came was helping my sister purchase a used car from a new car dealership) due to a lack of interest on my part but also because I couldn't afford one. I doubt I am alone in that predicament. I also predict that the universe of slant six owners who also buy new cars from dealerships is a tiny fraction of overall slant six vehicle ownership.

Lou is right and many people drop piles of money into cars for their wheels and tires or stereos or 10 other things. To each his own. I believe that some day there will be an aluminum head, and lets not call people names for pursuing something that they are passionate about. Let's just smile when this comes up again in 6 or 8 months, and then in the future when the new head hits the market we can look back and say, "wow I remember talking about this 100 times, and it finally happened!" :lol: :lol:

For me, I am pretty sure I can goes as fast as I want with a iron head.

Like I say, if you have the money, go for it. I am going to hazard a guess that lots of slant owners have the passion for an aluminum head, but very few have the money to pursue that passion. I still just don't see how an aftermarket slant six head will ever be mass produced based on simple market influences. The customer base isn't anywhere close to making it a profitable venture. That doesn't mean that some persistent soul won't b able to make a small run at a hobby foundry of heads as a labor of love. Kudos to them if they do!

It's hard to realize the benefits that are available with amenities such as an aluminum head or other more hardcore performance items because the Slant engine has never really had those things available to them like the Ford and Chevy inline 6 engines have and currently do. Saying that the Slant is behind the times in those areas goes without saying. So it's hard to understand what you have been missing since you've never had them. The Chevy inline guys have 2 companies that make aluminum performance heads for that brand and the inline Ford 6 guys have 2 companies also. That may give some insight has to how much farther those groups are advanced in engine performance development beyond the Slant guys, and the fact that there are even companies willing to develop parts like this for those engines, but not for the Slant. An aluminum head for a Slant may not ever become a high production part, but it can become a reality because there is someone willing to do it, where many of these other companies don't care about making parts the Slant anymore.

All it takes is something better to be available, even if its not the beat all end all. that guy would have no competition, so if it was even reasonably better than stock it would sell.

I believe the cost is not that great of an issue if it is $2,000-ish. When I joined the Slant Six Club back in the '80s when Jack P ran the club, I think many owners then used Darts and Valiants as frugal daily drivers/beaters and tried to get 300,000+ miles on the odometer. That's why I now have a Geo Metro and will likely get an older Corolla.

I have noticed that a good number of engineers and technicians frequently post on this forum. Years ago I saw many Darts owned by hippies who barely kept the cars running, but I think the demographics are changing. We are the same people who admire Hemis but I think that many who post here are more mechanically skilled than some who own the high dollar V8 cars.

If the head is not made of gold I and its good quality then the orders would trickle in over the next decade, much as the Dutra Duals has gained fans.

I am completely ignorant about casting methods, but I strongly suspect that casting a small three cylinder exhaust manifold is much easier than casting a inline six cylinder cylinder head.

The foundry work is a task that foundries do for a living. You can contract the pattern making. Many production alloy heads today are cast from Lost Foam, some use semi permanent molds. I don't know what technique would be appropriate for a small run of castings. Someone who has done this scale of work before would know the kind of questions to ask. It won't be a democratic process. The work is more costly when the builder doesn't reuse existing manifolds or valve covers. The alloy Falcon six head is based on an OEM Australian cylinder head. I think the old Jaguar XK6 has the same bore center spacing as a SL6 (the head bolt pattern is wider). If a crossflow head is designed you might be able to use Jag I/E manifolds - spendy for new ones, but plenty of used ones around. If that would work its lots cheaper than developing new manifolds.
