Hey, has anyone ever asked those (4) aftermarket companies that make Chevy and Ford inline 6 heads if they would make a slant six head? Maybe beating a dead horse, but maybe they can be persuaded....

If nobody has asked, please give me their names and I'll make some calls.

I am completely ignorant about casting methods, but I strongly suspect that casting a small three cylinder exhaust manifold is much easier than casting a inline six cylinder cylinder head.

IIRC, Doug had an in with a foundry when he started the Dutra Duals and the Hyper Paks. Not sure how many intakes and exhausts he sold, but I am pretty sure he didn't get rich. And yes, there is a HUGE difference between $300/500 parts and $2000 parts when it comes to selling them, especially when there may or may not be much gain over a $1200 Jeffrey (or any of the other head porters) head.

Also consider that Mark Goodman did roller rockers and sold roughly 100 sets. Cox Bros. did a run of the RAS rollers and took 10 years to get rid of 25 sets. That tells me the market is diminishing.

It all comes down to finding someone with more money than sense that loves Slants and wants to invest $20-50K with little chance of return.

Yes, I bought a home smelter, Seymour sent me some old Chrysler casting boxes he got on E-Bay, and Mike bought a Bridgeport. I am going to do the castings down at the Skunkworks and send them to Mike to finish. First one should be done about Christmas.

I Incorporated a few changes into the chamber and ports. They are patterned after a Big Chief head.

These heads will bolt on to a stock motor and should produce about 300 horse and get 32 mpg.

Target cost will be $995 per head.

What are the chances you'd be able to cast a reversed left-hand version of the head? It'll go great on the Slant V-12 I'm building in my backyard.

That can be done for an additional $395 in tooling fees. :D

Too much money. Need to get the price more affordable.

This horse is the deadest horse that ever was dead. That is of course until it is alive again and a new head actually shows up.

seems like a good price point to me. it's about $900-1200 for a good head job now, and decent v-8 heads can easily cost $1K-$2500 a pair. so $1k seems reasonable to me

There is also a need for an improved Studebaker V8 head. The Stude V8 has a reputation of being extremely durable, but the company never had the funds to significantly improve the motor, which resembles an early Caddilac V8.

Its true : the once very common slant six is becoming like the Studebaker.

What Studebaker did succeed at is boosting its relatively small V8 with a supercharger. Turbos and superchargers are probably where the slant six fans ought to look.
