Ratech makes a really neat little tool for checking your pinion depth too. 10007 is the part number, it's about $20.

Well it sounded like the solid spacer would be better to me also. Solid and new bearings it shall be. Thanks!

Do you guys order a second bearing and open the ID on it so you don't have to press the bearing off and on while setting it up?

I just open up the one I am using. I have some 1" sanding rolls and a mandrel from Menard's that I use in a die grinder. It takes about a minute to polish the bearing out and it saves tons of time. I wash them out with lacquer thinner before assembly to keep the grit out.

I have seen huge arguments over whether or not you should open up the actual bearing, but people who do rears for a living usually agree that it hurts nothing. Pinion nut torque is what holds it together anyway. :D

sometimes they slip on and sometimes not.

I have a spare old one that I use for setup now... it's loose.

Sometimes it's needed to open up one to get in on without beting everything else up.

I agree with Dennis - Probably okay!

Well I haven't posted about the truck for some time. Lots of things going on on life that were more important. I have finally got some of the small things done that never seem to get done or that were pretty far down the list to get done.
First off I finally installed a new Kenwood Radio/CD player which is too complicated for my old brain to fully understand! I also installed 2 new speakers in the doors and now we have sound.
Secondly I ordered new carpet and and got that installed so the floor looks a little better. Metal under the old carpet looked nice too.
Thirdly there was a wear spot in the drivers side of the seat bottom. I took it to an "Old Timer" upolstery guy and he had a perfect match on the color of the seat. The texture is slightly different but most people would not notice unless I told them.
The only thing left on my list is the new pinion seal and bearings in the rear end. I have been dragging my feet on tearing that apart just yet, but I know I have to.

Yeah, very nice work, Rick! Warmest wishes to all the Covalts, and all the nutcases in Slant 6 land. "Slant 6 land" is anywhere that Slant 6ers dwell... This herbal tea of my Mom's is making me loopy!

Yes, I hate to say it, but I may be putting the truck up for sale shortly. I just don't use it enough to justify keeping it now that I have a new tow vehicle. I will post it for sale here 1st just in case a "Slant 6 crazy" would like it.

Interior is all back together with new carpet and seat cover.

I built this "Hot box" around a couple of the header tubes to aid with getting some hot air up under the intake since I am running headers in the cold. It does help some too!

Guess I better go take it for a ride!
