Today I put insurance back on the 83 D150 and suspended the insurance on the 96 Sonoma.
The 83 is back to daily driver status.

Along with the cam and clutch change I went through a list of projects on the D150
* New front brake pads, re newed the lube in the front spindle bearings, flushed the brake lines
* Fixed the auto door locks
* Re soldered a loose radiator bracket
* Re balanced the four tires / wheels
* Swapped the plastic line for the mechanical oil pressure gauge to a copper line
* Added a cab vent, since I changed out the door seals when I re did the truck, it takes a really good slam of the door to get it to close with all the windows up. I got a set of these vents at the pull a part. I installed one of the vents in the rear cab wall behind the driver seat. Photo below. It has helped a lot.

The transmission shifts really smooth thanks for the tips on the transmission fluid. The motor starts easily, pulls fine.
Looking forward to a summer of fun driving.

Well Done! I've been checking for your updates every few days. You got quite a bit done in a short amount of time. I really like your attention to detail. I got to see this truck in person one time, I'm thinking it wasn't too long after you had finished it up. We were at Clay City I think. That was the time Ryan was tempted to see if he could win against you in his big blue W-100 and he never made it an inch off the line :lol: --- Good Times

I did, used a Dremel with a cut off wheel to cut the opening. As the vent mounts from the inside was easy to put in. Not sure what the vent came from.
Too many Pull-A-Part trips.

The 83 D150 has been back in use as my daily driver for about 6 weeks. I have put 1573 miles on it since the cam and clutch change. M and I have have taken a couple of nice trips in it. One to Middle Fork River Forest Preserve, near Rantoul IL. That location is designated as an International Dark Sky Park,, meaning that there is nearly no manmade light pollution, so it is really dark at night and the stars in the sky are really visible.
This past Tuesday we were in Santa Clause IN at the Holiday World water park with grandkids much fun. The D150 has done fine, no issues. Cruses on the highway just like before the cam change. The only real differences that I notice is with the prior larger cam, when pushing the RPM's through the gears one could feel a surge at 2800 RPM where that cam cam in. The new cam has a bit more push right off of idle then is smooth as the RPMs go up. The idle is certainly smoother and with the new cam. The clutch-transmission is great, shifts nice and smooth like it should.
Today I hooked up the vacuum advance to the distributor. That is about the last thing on the list. Tomorrow I go back on the 68 Barracuda to-do list.

huh.... been thru Rantoul many times, not far from me... but never heard of that place. Been to the former Chanute AFB museum a few times there. "1/2 Century of Progress" which is a HUUUUGE farm show happens there, I believe every other year. Last time I was there for that it, was HOT out there that day.

I have my kid's 80 /6, D150 stepside here, right now.... had to work on his 99 Ram 2500 4wd, with the V10 in it/ which he left here from yesterday when we started the job, he couldn't drive em both... so I'm gonna burn some of his gas and take it to work tomorrow.... speedo bounces wildly over 50 MPH, was gonna pop my Garmin in there for a "speedo" and his truck don't even have a cig lighter socket..... looks like it never did.
I had to pull the whole front diff apart (Dana 60!) to replace the axle seals.... lotsa work for $12 worth of seals.

I do like lists, the photo is the roster of items I put together in November of 2020 that I wanted to get done on the 83 D150 prior to the driving season for that vehicle.
I brainstorm and then write down in no particular order all the items that I want to get done. I try to keep these at a high level, knowing that each item may have several sub items.
Typically I then go back and list out an order of events and put a priority on items. Then I check them off as they get done. I like checking off things that get done.

The winter-time do list on the 83 D150 was short this year.
The OE radiator had started seeping at the bottom corners this past summer. I had it re cored locally.
Looks like the shop did a good job, it did take almost three weeks for them to get the
correct size radiator core in. Put in a new 195 thermostat, the hoses were all changed out last year when I pulled the motor
for the cam change so they are still good.
I added one cab vent last winter to help evacuate the air out when closing the doors with the windows closed.
That made a big difference. I had a second vent and I installed it.
I changed the engine oil before parking the truck back in November, I will lube the chassis and it will be set for this April.

I like the cab vents! If I ever get back around to messing with my D150 I'll have to look into that. I still need that 8 3/4 center section first though... :roll: :lol:

I got the cab vents from the pull a part years ago,

It is Chrysler part number 4432752
mine came from an '88 D150 but I bet they were used for several years.
Looks like Dodge put them in the door, I put mine on the back of the cab.

If it's the bottom tank to core seam, just go over it with a plumber's torch and solder..........
