After struggling with short springs, cut springs, shocks and lowering shocks I bit the bullet and ordered up some coilovers.
Image

To improve the spring ratio I decided to mount the coilovers outboard of the frame instead of inside the frame as original.
That meant cutting the side of the spring pocket off the frame. How to make a nice flat, plumb, straight cut? Lasers!
With the laser lever set up I marked a cut line with a paint pen.

Lovin' it. If you care to post the type/brand/model of your laser level, I'd be interested.

Cheers,
Lou

Hey Lou, It's a Bosch. Chosen because it was cheap. Works fine though. If I was buying another one now I would look for something that has the ability to lock out the leveling mechanism. As it is I can only project vertical and horizontal lines but it would be real handy to be able to set it up to project a line at any angle of my choice.

All I have to say is; when I grow up, I want to move next door to ProCycle.

Here's what I did to shorten the bed.

Sprayed a little white primer in the areas where I needed to make cuts. And set up the laser to mark the lines.

Then gave it the chop with a cutoff wheel in the angle grinder.

And tacked it back together

12-1/2" removed from both the front and the back of the bed.
Image

The bed has to be dropped 1-1/4" to line up with the cab. Rear fenders need to be cut for tire clearance. New mounts fabricated at the rear of the bed.
