Just a little update on the progress the last couple days.

Rear end is finally bolted in for the duration. Final welding (by a real welder) to be done soon. Drive shaft is in and new joints installed.

I rebuilt a distributor and got it installed, I put in the rocker assembly and chromemoly(spelling) pushrods I picked up on E-bay for $25. They are bigger than stock, and probably over weight, but then again so am I. Mounted my MSD blaster coil and the HEI ignition system and got all the wires run to it.

I like that coil and HEI mounting solution! Another thing I'd like to copy cat you on. :wink:

Are you going to run an additional ground wire from the HEI module?

Yes it will get another wire directly to ground. You can't really see it well but the aluminum hangs out over the fender about 1" so that air can pass buy it and keep it cooler.

Looking great,Msd does recommend oil filled coils to bee mounted vertical,was told that by Msd tech guy when I was haveing ignition troubles,Think I read it in the instructions also,Mark

mine too till I had some ignition issues,searched and changed three or four things and problem went away,dont know which fixed it.Put coil upright cause thats what Msd said and what I read.Maybee the electrons leak out on there side....They actually say the oil inside can uncover some of the windings and get hot and lead to failing..Mark

I'm always looking for "cheap" things to use off other cars. Here is a 3 circuit power supply that looks like it could work pretty well in some applications on our cars. It has 3 fusible links inside that are 30 amp, 30 amp, and 20 amp. It bolted right to the battery terminal on a stud that stuck up off the terminal. It was off a 92 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

I've been told the same thing about coil mounting, but I've got two Blasters mounted sideways and so far so good.

I was thinking about you today (and almost called you! :shock: )

I decided to fiddle with the truck a little so I can get it running to sell.

I had the ground wire on the wrong side of the HEI module and thought "Aha!" :D

But alas,... still no spark. :cry: I'll post something in another thread.

Mount them anyway you want...The correct recomended way is ONLY 1 way.I tend to do stuff the recomended way to take possibly problems hopefully out of equation.Wilfred

Most of my wiring is in. I went to stick in the starter (full size) and it would not go in with my headers on. I was sure I had done that before! So I'm not messing with the headers. I just ordered a new mini starter. Should be here next week.

I have the new wire with Fusible link run directly from the Alternator to the battery. My oil pressure gauge and line is run as well as wiring up the low oil pressure switch. Once I get the starter in place and wired up I will put some power to it and see if I got current where it needs it. I will probably go ahead and mount my carb and make my throttle cable mount while I wait for the starter. Still movin ahead!

One question. The main feed wire that runs from the battery back to the starter relay does not appear to have any protection on it.(It is a #10 Black wire) At least mine does not. Should it have ? There is a fusible link from the starter relay over to the lug on the bulkhead, but that won't protect anything from the battery to the relay. I guess the main stater wire has no protection either. thinking out loud!
