OR.... One long piece of Lexan. put the original headlight trim pieces in each side, with headlight decals. Put the Lexan over everything and put a "grille decal' over the center. You'd be aerodynamic and light. Jus' sayin'. I always thought the Challenger/Sapporo cars were good looking cars. |

The grill on the Challenger looks an awful lot like an early (79-80) Fox body Mustang to me... Even more “identity crisis”.  Norm really tried to “Moparize” this little guy by using the Six Pak hood scoop and lettering it with the word “Mopar” no less than 3 times on each side AND the roof. |

I never thought of that, but I believe 'Challenger' was before the fox body Mustangs (I could be wrong). Why not one solid piece of Aluminum with a decal that looks like a 1970 Challenger? It'd be different, that's for certain. In my mind, there is no mistaking it's a Mopar. -Matt |

I took some more things apart last night...  What’s left of the radiator support weighs about 7 pounds. I didn’t weigh the grill, but I will. I need to figure out how I want to move the fuel cell so the new support and cell play nice together. More pics to follow.

The fuel cell mount seems like overkill to me and weighs about 10 pounds!  I’m working on a lighter option using some aluminum I salvaged from a broken satellite dish. It should weigh less than a pound. Pics to follow.

If the cell is in the front I think it needs a crash bar around it. |

NHRA rules. Quote: Tanks: When permitted by class regulations, fuel tanks located outside body and/or frame must be enclosed in a steel tube frame constructed of minimum 1 1/4-inch O.D. x .058 chromoly or .118 mild steel tubing.
I will look at how I can maybe move it a little, but keep the current frame. Thanks.

This is the little 1.5 gallon one used for alcohol. Everyone I've seen like this is mounted up front. Probably having to do with the fuel pump...(?) It's actually fine where it is and it would certainly be easier to just leave it like it is. I was just being persnickety... I'll rework the front fender support around it. I'll still be removing somewhere over 10 pounds off the front of the car by replacing the radiator support and grill w/brackets with aluminum stuff.  I spent some time last night looking through boxes trying to find the paperwork for the engine (cam card, etc...) I'm looking forward to retirement just so I can quit moving every couple years and boxing things up so often... |

Having the cell in front eliminates the need for an electric pump, longer lines, and I believe a surge tank when running injection. Personally, I have never been a fan of having the fuel cell be the first one on the scene in case of a wreck.

& here I wuz thinkin' I'd just throw a little strap of aluminum 'round that sucker & be good...  You sure is a whole bunch smarter than what I is. Thanks fer checkin' me on this. Aw heck! What am I worried fer...?  It ain't like this thing's ever gonna run again anyway...
