Engine and Trans are now bolted in the car. Headers and intake just on with a couple of bolts, so I can fab up everything, and check for fit. I bit the bullet and installed a 3,000 rpm converter.

I want to bring the 66 Cuda, and the 66 Valiant, but I don't know if I can get both done in time. The valiant is going on hold, untill I get the Cuda ready. Then I will go back to work on the Valiant. Want to make sure I have one car ready, and not no cars.

Little update. Removed the gas tank, and stock 7 1/4 rear. Found the rear spring bushings are toast. Noboby around here had then in stock. They would have to be special ordered. Ordered a set of poly bushings, from PST, for the same price as rubber ones ($50.00), locally. (D/W, rear springs, drag car  ). Had a friend with mobile welding equipment, come up and do some rust repair, on the driver side "frame" rail, near the emergency brake cable bracket. He cut the bad area out, and welded in a new section. Payment will be, my labor on a rear brake job on his 2003 Dodge PU. Painted the 3.91 SG 7 1/4 rear that will be going in.
The gas tank has so much crud in it, I'm not going to bother with it. I have a brand new tank in stock, I got off e-bay for $100 plus $15 shipping.

So does this mean that your Cuda is ready to go since you're playing with the Valiant again?

Are you going with turbo or nitrous on the Cuda this time?

Only 23 days left....

That's the way it is for most of us I guess!

I'm looking forward to the race. Hopefully I will be able to get to Atlanta in enough time to "keep finding more things to do" too! :D

Had a little time, the last couple of days. Got the 3.91 SG 7 1/4 rear painted. Painted the springs, shock plates and shackles. The rear is now installed, and the car back on it's wheels. The poly spring bushings from PST were the wrong size (1 1/2 inch and spring eyes are 1 3/8 inch), so I sent them back and got rubber bushings, from NAPA.
Got some work done on the car in the last week. Painted the floors with "Ospho", and top coated them with anti rust paint. Pulled the old engine, today, pressure washed the engine compartment, and painted it with a couple of rattle cans. Going to start installing the PST front end kit, shortly.
Have a delemma. Wanted to build the car on the cheap. I am trying to get it done, and bring it to the Georgia slant six race. The problem, "I want to go quick". Was goining to leave the stock converter and rear, and then change them later, and document the difference. Now I'm considering putting them in right away. I have them on hand. A 9 inch 3,000 rpm stall, and a 3.91 SG, 7 1/4 rear. What do you folks think?
Can you tell me more about the "ospho"? I need to coat the duster floor with something...where can I get it? Is it similar to anti rust paint?

Finally fired the engine. Ran it to break in the cam, set the timing, adj valves, adj carb. Can't believe how good this engine idles. Don't have the tach hookled up yet, but idles about 700-800 rpm, with a 460 lift Crane cam. My other cam (434 lift) will not idle below about 1,000 rpm. Not sure yet, but may have a problem with the trans. Car is still up on jack stands, and I cannot "feel" a 1st to 2nd shift. I can feel the shift to high, or at least a shift to a higher gear, when I move the shifter the high. Tommorow nite I will install a pressure gauge to the kickdown servo pressure port, and see if I have pressure. Still have to install the battery hold down, tach, seat, seat belts, mount the shifter, and some wireing.

Sounds good Charlie. Can you feel it downshift when you go back to low from 2nd? Most of my manual valve bodies will have a very soft shift to 2nd when in the air.

I couldn't feel any difference, going up or down. I know what you mean about the shift in the air. Thats, why I'm going to check the pressure (easy to do).Had to quit last night, it was after dark. My neighbors are very tolerant, of my race cars, mini junk yard, and doing auto repair in a residential zone. I don't want to antagonize them.

Rob, Actually I only have about 5 days. Want to get the car to Gainesville next weekend to check things out. Then I will need a couple of days to get the RV ready and load everything up. Plus I will still have customers cars to complete.

Had a OOOPPS, today. Running the engine some more, and varying the rpm, and the fan belt came off. Then I hear a wirring/ringing sound. The next thing I know the outer ring of the crank damper, runs over both my feet, and heads out the door.   . So had the remove the radiator, and install a new damper. Looking at the bright side, nothing else got damaged, and better for it to happen now, then at the races.

Yikes!

Glad you weren't hurt Charrlie. Definitely better to happen at home in your shop than at the track, or anywhere else.

Keep us posted,... hopefully with no more OOPSes.
