Well I got everything put back together, so I was running it outside to let it get nice and warm so I can check all the torgue's. So I ran it for awhile and then I went to put it back in the garage and when i pulled it in, it sputtered a little bit and acted like it ran out of gas, and the tank seemed pretty empty, so I filled it back up and went to turn over the key.........NOTHING ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Lou, I used to do that until I started pulling the threads out of my first Slantzilla block. ![]() |

That's weird. I've never had a problem. I believe the 65 ft-lbs is for dry bolts/threads, and I like to oil mine up. 80-90 ft-lbs should be no problem for a good 7/16" bolt (like SBP lugnuts/bolts). Lou |

Well I took it out to the track, and when I got there I popped the hood and I had a nice little oil leak coming from the back of the block (by the 6 cylinder). So I wiped it up thinking it might be just left over from putting the engine back together, but while it was just sitting there it seeped out slowly. I am using just the regular Fel-Pro gasket, should I use a copper one??? I have 11-1 pistons if that helps at all. Thanks guys. |

If it's where I think you're talking about, you probably hooked the head gasket setting the head on. The area you described is where the gasket is very thin on the block. I did the same thing once. In an emergency you can clean the joint with brake cleaner and put a bead of good silicone to hold it. |

What valve cover gasket is everyone using? I was using the rubber one, but I'm thinking that might not be the best way to go, it also could be some of my oil leaking problem (there's been oil on top of my oil filter). I did a compression test tonight, on the initial turnover it jumps to 150 lbs, then after 3 turns, its up to 215. What about you guys???? Thanks for the help!!!! |

What do you have for a cam in that thing? I am right at 11-1 and have about 170 with a .558/300 Clifford cam. ![]() I use a cork VC gasket. It usually leaks too. ![]() ![]() |

Is your 170 at initial turnover??? or is it after 3 cranks?? I have a Isky VA160 cam. I don't have the specs on it though, I bought the engine as is, and all the mechanics sheet said was that it was a VA160. ![]() |

Does anyone know anything about this cam (Isky VA160)? I ran this weekend and ran 13.2 all day, but I ended up having to silicon my head/block leak of oil. I really can't figure out why I am leaking oil right there, but the silicon is holding up.......for now ![]() |

I did the 150HP thing also, last weekend. Thats why I didn't make Wilkesborro. Moved up from 125hp. Traction was terrible, spun every run. My best 60 foot was only a 1.800. the best et was a 8.238 at 81.41 for the 1/8 and 13.167 at 97.55 for the 1/4. Two runs later, I think it ate a piston. It has a dead hole and puffing out the breather. Need to find out what happened. It should not have been lean, I am only running 7.8-1 compression, short nose/cold plugs, total timing at 24*, and 114 octane race gas. Need to get this little 170 into the 12's. |
