Quote: Left to right, the colums are level #, then original sender resistance, then Spectra sender in stock form, then spectra sender in "modified" form.

The two right columns are the exact same sender, only difference being the arm was bent down. I returned all my SPI senders. The only reason I did that experiment with the SPI units was to prove it to myself I wasn't going insane and it indeed was the senders. At the moment I'm running my modified dealer sender. The original is safely tucked away. Next time I get the chance I'll fiddle with the dealer sender, and if not successful go back to my original one. Bending it is easy enough, have any ideas for extending the arm? Maybe soldering another length of stiff wire. Theres a small "zigzag" in the arm, if I straighten it out that will put it out further a bit. Can't extend it too much because then it may hit the expansion tank. www.quantaproducts.com has senders too, but they look like the SPI units, probably same box different sticker. It sucks that others have this problem, but its a relief in the sense that I know I'm not the only one. |

The quanta products sender picture is a brassy color where the SPI photo is a silvery color, so they maybe different. Where did you get the SPI and who sells them so I can avoid them? |

I'm sort of wondering if it has occurred to anyone to call up Spectra Premium and say "I have noticed a problem with your sender number such-and-such; it looks like the development wasn't quite done properly, or else you had a production batch with improper resistance. Here's my data.". |

The SPI ones I bought came from autozone, but I'm sure others retail them. I think rockauto does. Dan - Somehow I doubt those beancounters will listen to us peons. They probably sell less then 10 units a year and don't make them any more. I get the feeling SPI is the oem for the mopar units. |

I'm not so sure that's correct...the last time I called SPI they seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say. The senders are still listed on their products site, so where are you getting that they don't make them any longer? |

mine did the same, untill I got real crazy and took all the fuel system out. The tank had a dent diminishing it's capacity and that's was the cause of the misread. |

We sold Spectra through O'Reilly's, and to me their stuff always seemed to be pretty solid. In almost a year I never had a customer complaint other than pricing, but everyone always likes to bitch about prices. |

The "they don't make them anymore" was meant to fall under the "probably" part of the sentance. I don't know anything of their actual production/sales, just said out of frustration.... As to calling them - even if they are receptive I'm not sure what good it would do since I already returned both of the SPI units I bought. Besides, if the mopar one is the same, maybe its not SPI's fault directly... hmmph. Argentina-slantsixer - the tank is pristine, no dents, its immaculate. I knew someone that accidentally placed a floorjack under the tank... but not me ![]() Physically the SPI units were fine, well made, and priced almost the same as the dealer unit give or take. |

I seem to recall services listed in Hemmings for rebuilding the sending units. I would check there. |
