1. I might read it if I could find it. How did you? I did a search on "5 speed" and got 3255 hits.

If you know who posted the original post and you include the author name in you search it makes it much easier, unless you are going through SSD's posts.

Luthastro, I'm detecting a pattern to your posts, which is what's generating what you must perceive as a constant barrage of hostility towards you.

You seem to want prewrapped, all-in-one, drop-in, ultralow-cost solutions for what are—in reality—expensive, complicated and require multiple skills. There is just no way to spoon-feed the info required to swap a 5-speed into your Valiant, and unless you personally have all the skills, all the facilities, all the tools and most of the knowledge, there are going to be labour costs involved. And parts-hunting costs involved. And parts-reconditioning costs. And parts-adaptation costs. It's going to add up!

I think you're trying to jump from step number one (you just bought a Valiant) to step number thirty-three (you want to modify it in ways no manufacturer ever intended) without proceeding through steps 2 through 32 first. That is why the answer to your "what's the most economical transmission installation" question is different from the answer to that same question when I ask it, or when Sandy asks it, or when Doug asks it, etc. For an individual in your position, the answer is as I stated early in this thread: A transmission similar or identical to the one you've got now is the most economical transmission replacement for you.
