The tunnels on the later A-bodies were larger?
Naw, the difference in the tunnel is floor shift vs. column shift. You have to add the floor shift "hump" if you're going from an automatic or a 3-on-the-tree to a 4-speed, because the 4-speeds are all floor-shifted. This isn't all that tough since there exist brand new shifter hump panels. They're intended for later cars, but can very easily be adapted to the earlier cars.
Thanks. That's a relief.

Dan what panels have you seen? I've seen the 67-up fiberglass ones for around $100, but not much else. pray tell. Granted the difference I see if whether its a round or oval hole in the hump..any other difference? Or are you talking about a much later A body hump?

I'll only tell you if ya promise not to chop up your Lancer to put in a 4-speed!

Seriously, I'd need to dig around to retrieve what I saw some months ago. It's not going to happen soon; I just got back from the West Coast and have a big mountain of backlog to chew through.

No worries, time is on my side. I'm thinking the 4 speed with go into da vagon... But the Lancer is undergoing transformation right now into sleeper machine. Once the shocks, T bars and disc brakes get put on, its going to be a whole new ball game ;) It'll still have 4 doors and a slant though.

Ross,

I have a '64 Signet ragtop which came with 175-70R-13 radials at all four corners...

It seems to have a very tight grip on the pavement; my issue is recovery after a turn: it seems like I need to help the steering back to center. (Has power-steering). I do notice some body-roll on hard cornering, but never to the point where I feel like "I'm going to lose it"...

This is my first A-body MoPar, so I don't have any experience with these buggies on bias tires.

Most of my other antiques (pre-1965) have bias tires.

If I don't switch to 14" wheels, I will be looking to the 185-80 R 13 tires when the present set wears-out...

Got new radials on front.

Handling is much better.

The new radials call for 11 PSI higher than old radials.

power steering can be a pain with that "not going back to the center" thing. Getting your front end correctly aligned and trying to squeeze the max amount of advance out of it withouth exceeding 6º or rubbing the tire against the wheel well lip.

my car has the round hole hump (I retrieved it from the donor car) what kind of hump style would be that, dan? I'm installing a 833 on her... got sick of the 904... I guess I'll be missing the auto trans when I finish my new peppy big inch 240 slant... agressive motors tend to chew up clutch assys like pretzels and a good converter outlasts clutch assys like 20 to 1 or something like that for a drag/street application if you get your converter built up right.

Round hole hump= 64-66 hump. Hard to find the "right" rubber for it, but if you're happy to use an aftermarket, its not impossible to find. I found one that was close, i'll try and look it up.

don't know if you got those up there but renault 12 rubber fits this tunnel just like a glove. (BTW there's many other renault parts that fit mopars, such as some headlights etc.... at least down here) cost is like US$ 5 down here...
