Quote: Hi all,
Dang, dunno how I missed this one. Great to hear we may have a possibility, especially if it'll hold better than the Mopar 10" clutch. Hopefully they offer a 23 spline Mopar version of the kit soon...
So, I have been working with Matt at SPEC clutches over the last couple of months. I needed a mustang disk ( or a custom disk with a T5 hub) and a pressure plate that would fit our flywheel. I got a 300 ft/lbs custom kit from them, and in initial fit testing, the clutch is working very well. ... This is a 9" clutch, and weighs a lot less than the 10", but should have the same or better holding power. Matt has talked to me about offering this whole thing as a single part number, either with the ford style clutch disk hub, or a mopar one. We decided to wait until we test it all out on my car. If this works, it should be easy to order your own. I will keep updating this thread as more is learned. Thanks to Lou and Menko for helping out. Greg |

Quote: Does anyone care that the friction material pictured does not appear to be Kevlar? Spec Clutch's Kevlar material is tan. The organic material is pictured in Greg's post."
Hey Josh, I just go on what they told me. It looks a lot different from other organic disks that I have seen, but that may not be evident in person.Quote: PostPosted: Tue Jun 10, 2008 9:52 am Post subject: Does this pressure plate have a steel ring instead of a cast ring ? I wander if they will make one that holds more power than this, like a 500ftlb setup ? Nice looking clutch, its good to see companies willing to help. A stick setup will be going in mine soon as I get the tranny built. I have a new 9" setup already but its nothing special. Jess I don't know what they can or can't do in terms of holding power, but it is worth a call to Matt at Spec. Quote: Hopefully they offer a 23 spline Mopar version of the kit soon...
Lastly, the 23 spline 833 question-- Yes, they will do friction disks for that as a well. Again, I would just call Matt.Hope this helps. Greg |

Hey Josh, How can I tell if the clutch disk is organic or Kevlar? When I look at other kevlar clutch disks on the web, they look a lot like the one that I have. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/8680,38 ... -Disc.html |

Stage one organic disc. http://specclutch.com/csproductinfo.php?product=stage1 Stage two Kevlar disc. http://specclutch.com/csproductinfo.php?product=stage2 The Speedway disc appears to have some Kevlar and the description says Carbon-Kevlar. |

Josh, you were right. I checked with SPEC, and they looked at the picture, and admitted it was goofed up. I have a new disk coming. I will put up pics of it when I get it. |

The ring is the part of the prerssure plate the clutch rides on. They are either cast iron, or they are forged steel. The steel ring will not explode on you like the cast ring will. Seems to me like you can look somewhere on the edges and there may be a parting line from casting marks or not. Its been awail sense I have bought performance clutchs so I may not be right about the signs to tell which is which. But there is a big differance in there strength and durability. Jess Jess |

It looks to me, after some checking, that this ring is cast iron. It has a graininess that I would associate with cast iron, and what feels like a parting line in one place. |

Nice. Does that disc have a spring (can't recall name) between the friction discs (in plane of disc), or is it solid design. I prefer the solid design. Lou |

Hi Lou, If I am understanding you, it is a solid design. |

That is a sprug hub, ( it has springs to cushing the load when inguaged). That is one good looking disk also. It might hold more than 300ftlb of torque depending on what spring pressure they use in the plate. Jess |

Yeah it's sprung hub, but they were talking about the marcel in between the facings. |

I am still talking to the engineers at SPEC about putting this together as a kit. Is there interest in a group buy? If there is, I can see if we can get the price down some. ( Won't help me, but it will help everybody else.) |
