Thanks for the kind words, Jopapa! I can't imagine your being all that much younger than I; I'm 31. Folks like Doc have a great deal more time and practical experience under their belts than I. Me, I try to help out when I know the answer (or think I know). That said...your comment here makes me wonder if dakight was objecting to my tone of voice, or to Speedy's!
You're 31?! Holy moly, with as much as you've shown yourself to know about these cars, I had thought you were about my father's age (I'm 26)!

Now that's just funny.

Oh please! Personally, I enjoy a good debate when it's based on facts, even reasoned opinion, but when it turns personal I get very tired of it very quickly.
Actually given Dan's track record for basically "knowing his chit", i make it a point to read anything he posts, and if he offers advice, I usually end up following it (or planning to). The guy's definately got the knowledge and the experience to back it up, and me being a younger gearhead, I've learned to listen to the guys that've been around for a few years longer than me.

Dan, your posts were factual, not personal. Yeah, there may have been a tinge of sarcasm but that wasn't my objection. Speedy crossed the line from arguing facts/opinion/theory to a thinly veiled personal remark. I'll grant that sometimes you are unnecessarily strident but I don't think you were this time.

By all means, if you like the plugs, run them. No one said anything to the contrary. However, if you're going to make claims you should be prepared to back them up with hard data and not resort to personal attacks when called on it.

I would say we were kind of on the edge of catching fire on that one! It was kind of like watching a NASCAR race and wondering who was going to hit the wall. For what it is worth, I think it would be wise for all of us to try and not take anything personaly on the forum here. And I know it was said in jest, but seeing the word "hate" in print really rubbed me the wrong way. The trouble with the internet is that you cannot read someone's tone of voice on the page.

If someone disagrees with you, that is his right, and doing so doesn;t make you "wrong". Everyone is free to then do as they please with the information that comes out. I am a firm believer in the adage, "question everything", which means you are never through learning. I also believe that there is very little in this world that is objective "truth". That is one of the major axioms of quantum physics, which Einstien was not a fan of. So there you go, a pretty bright group of guys who didn;t see eye to eye all the time.

Dan, I am pretty shocked at your age. Last year I was twice the age you were then, and would never had guessed this was so. I guess I can start calling you "Sonny" from now on. AT one point in my life I thought I would remember everything I ever learned. Sadly, this is not so, and I am glad you are around as a resource I can tap now that my memory seems to be working with limited retrieval circuitry.

Your conrete information is always very compelling. It is just amazing that you have collected so much data in so short a period of time. I guess if this were Starwars, Doc is Yoda, and you are Luke Skywalker. In my old identity on this forum , I was Dartvader, because my '70 DArt was black. I tried to get that vanity plate for it, but it was taken already. No Dan, that does not make me your father, and we don;t have to go at it with light sabers, but I did move to the dark side briefly when I had a Corvette for one year.

Sam

Yeah...as a bumper sticker on a friend's refrigerator says: "Other people ruin everything!"

True for sure, though namecalling is childish all by itself, no tone of voice required.

You betchya...especially since it costs $0.00!

Oh, I donno if I'd go quite that far. Many things aren't worth questioning 'cause the right answers (and the wrong ones) are well demonstrated and robustly known.

Now that I can get behind.

True! I mean...um...relatively true! ;-)

I'll keep working on it a day at a time to make it less shocking.

Yeah, tell me all about it. At 15-19 I was a walking encyclopædia of part numbers and adjustment specs and design revisions. Now I have to refresh my recollection most times. I suffer from CRS (Can't Remember Shtuff), but of course I can remember every phone number I ever had, every stupid advertising jingle I ever heard, and a bunch of other useless crapola

Its funny you guys hammer the spiltfires (no pun intended) cause my slant likes them. I put in some fancy auto lights and my car damn near went on strike. The best plugs I've used so far are the split's Ill give those ngk's a spin when these give up the ghost. Dan you facts can be delivered a bit brutely some times (I know first hand knowlage of this  ) but if you through a bone to some one thats flustrated like that it helps cool them down.

Anybody got a NAPA part number for the NGK UR4IX? Or should I look elsewhere? And yes, I did try searching.

I just had NAPA order mine as the NGK UR4, with no problems.
I actually went ahead and got the UR4GP's and gapped them at .040 per Slant Six Dan's suggestion. I also followed his other recommendations by using the Echlin MO-3000 rotor, Blue Streak Cap and MDS Blaster 2 coil. Great combination!

By the way, these run way smoother than the Champions or Autolites. Feels like I got a little better pick up and zip out of the engine. I can pass those pesky new Mustang GT's better now!

Dan,
Does NGK make an extended reach plug for the 80's 225 engine?
