Echlin effectively doesn't exist any more; they got swallowed up by Standard Motor Products some years ago. NAPA has been in turmoil since the MBAs who now run the operation have been on a mission to slash costs and turn NAPA away from its stodgy old image of supplying (quality) parts mostly to auto repair facilities. Instead, NAPA's gonna be your rootin', tootin', high-falutin' hep-cat PartSource™, for all your needs in (garbage from China) parts...now with NASCAR approval! Go see the crapmess www.napaonline.com has become — no serious cataloguing available any more; no cross-reference, no search-by-part-number, all that's been replaced by Harry and Hariet Homeowner make-model-year BS that does a great job showing you the NASCAR-approved pine-tree-shaped air stinkifiers that fit your car.

Don't know what to tell ya. The long-tip MO-3000 rotors are tan, they are available at Standard/Echlin; they are in the parts system, but there are a lot of the "we'll just stamp MO-3000 on the box of a regular rotor and they won't notice" units left in stock. Black ones? No, not from Echlin. I can try putting in a call to my guy at Standard and see if he has any bright ideas. Good luck contacting NAPA directly. They discourage that sort of thing and make it very difficult.

Very discouraging news. I noticed a week or so ago how they bumblef*cked NAPA's website and took away searching by part numbers. Luckily for me, the local NAPA right near Fairchild AFB is staffed and run by oldskool gearheads (a couple of which are /6 fans themselves) who know how to dig into the huge stack of parts books and compare parts when I'm looking for stuff. Even the couple young kids who work there seem to have the old gearhead attitude and have proven to me that they know how to find (and trace the location of) hard to get parts.

I REALLY hope that doesn't change before I get home at the end of April.

I emailed the NAPA folks about their changes to the website some time ago. Never got a response. They also took out all reference to the Napa prolink site. Fortunately for those who can get prolink access, all the parts x-ref is still there. It's very disapointing, there are very few places left with quality parts and good resources.

You were quite right Dan. Here is Napa's response to my email request:

"Thank you for visiting NAPAonline.com. We suggest that you contact the auto part professionals at your local NAPA auto parts store. Please feel free to use the store locator at our website or call 1-800-LET-NAPA (1-800-538-6272) to find the NAPA auto parts store nearest you. Again, thank you for visiting NAPAonline.comSincerely,Customer Support"

Pretty much telling me to pi$$ off. I did find some Accel rotors on Amazon.com. Not sure who owns Accel now, I think Echlin did at one time, so Standard should now. Here's a link, they look to be the same thing.

Bad to worse, I'm afraid. Accel got cut loose when Echlin was drowning, and the Accel "performance" rotor has been just a regular white short-tip one (of not very good quality) for quite awhile now. I went a few rounds with Accel, now owned by Mr. Gasket by the way, and the guys there were idiots who struck me as not knowing a rotor from a raspberry. :-(

I'm glad you posted this. I have been collecting parts for my HEI conversion, and I picked up a rotor at the NAPA store a few weeks ago. I hadn't looked at it until just now, and I think I have a small-tipped one too. Here is my rotor:

Compared to the ACCEL 130319 one that Amazon is selling (posted by FreeFish, above):

They are definitely different. Besides the ACCEL's tip looking longer, it also has a screw holding it on as opposed to a rivet on the Echlin one. That's really annoying. Wish I'd seen this post before buying mine. So, will the short-tipped rotor work at all with the CH-410X cap, or will it just not work as well as a long-tipped one?

Compatibility isn't the issue -- it's a question of optimal vs. non-optimal. I've got a mail into the guy I got with last time at SMP/Echlin; will see what he has to say.

So, is the ACCEL rotor, pictured above, the correct one? Can someone please post a picture of the correct, long-tipped, rotor? Thanks.

No, if you read the fourth post on this page (from FreeFish), he references the ACCEL rotor that Amazon is selling, and says it looks the same as the long-tipped Echlin rotor. Since I have never seen an official long-tipped Echlin rotor, I'm wondering if the ACCEL rotor is the same as the one we're looking for. If so, why not just order the ACCEL rotor from Amazon?

Hmm. . . I wonder what the record is for embedded quotes? :)

I went to the local NAPA last week and gave them the part number, and they said there were 2 in the warehouse. Next morning I had the long tipped one in my hand. $ 5.60 I believe.
