Welcome on the board.
you know S6Dan, when i first began seeking help with my own car, i started on a different chat site where one of the posts had a referral to this one. I LOVE!!! this place, the camaraderie, the info, and the sense of belonging to a family. I already told u in another forum that my check was forth coming. this just solidifies that. It takes a great leader to set a great example. Please keep leading by GREAT example. Bill(patriots) should take note 8) !!!!!

I just spent $166 on a master cylinder, 4 wheel cylinders and brake fluid.

I found some rear drums off a 70 Duster that are in pretty good shape.

Now I just need front and rear shoes, probably front drums, 5 wheel studs, and front and rear shocks.

Plus I need to put it all together. By September 22.
OK, I bought rear brake shoes for $20. AutoZone had them in stock. (Can you belive that?)
I also bought rear shocks for $35. Napa had them.
Brake cleaner for less than $5.

So far I've spent:

Master Cylinder. $45
4 Wheel Cylinders. $95
Brake fluid. $6
Rear Drums. Free
Rear shoes. $20
Rear shocks. $35
Brake cleaner $5

So I spent about $210 so far, give or take a few dollars.

Front shoes
Front drums
front shocks
5 wheel studs.

Hopefully I can get away with the front drums for now.

Hopefully I can finish this project for less than $300 total.

I will be buying new drums eventually, but for Mopar Drags (2 weeks away), The ones I have now will hopefully suffice.

hi,welcome to the board. are your front and rear rubber brake hoses original? how about condition of metal lines beween front hoses and wheel cyl? or main brake line tubes to rest of car. ( rear axle lines? main body line? do they look like any have any been patched up or damaged in the past?your car IS 40 years old) you are going to need $300 to $500 and you can add more $ if your e brake cables are stuck or other parts are unserviceable. how about upgrading your stock brake shoes if you don't want a front disc kit? i just ordered a set of 9x2.50 riveted carbon mettalics from firm feel.com for a a-body customer. these are not $25 shoes. i have used them on b+c bodys with great success. is your mopar a daily driver? drive once a month? what kind of brake fuid are you going to use if you are replacing everything on your car? its more important to stop than it is to go. just some thoughts before you start your brake job. ron

H'mm. Can you show us where you found the 9" carbon-metallic brake shoes? I'm looking at Firm Feel's A-body brake page at http://www.firmfeel.com/carbonme_a.htm , and I don't see any 9" shoes, only 10" and larger.

I've done the rear brakes already. It went pretty smoothly. I checked all the brake lines thoroughly, and they were all in great shape. The old shoes were almost completely gone. The drums were no good anymore. Everything turned out good. My e brake works better now too. The old master cylinder was hard to remove, but the new one went in good. I need to do the fronts still, then bleed the brakes, and i'll be done.

I am getting it ready to go racing on the 29th (Mopar Drags). After that, I wont put it on the road again until it's finished. Which will probably be early next year.

Later, I will make a new thread with my project in words and pictures.

Everyone loses it every once in awhile. That is human. It takes a real adult to calm down, appologize, make peace and put the past behind them. I think we have done that here. For what it is worth, I have learned there is no better advice on this forum for part numbers and applications then that from Slant Six Dan. There is a huge difference between budget parts and quality OEM or better replacement parts, and Dan seems to have the low down on all this.

Unless you have had years of experience and the discipline to record all your successes and failures with part numbers and brands, you are kind of shooting in the dark on your own. I always take his advice when it comes to chosing replacement parts. No amount of searching on the intenet is going to equal what you can get right here in that regard. And Dan is always more than willing to take his time to look these things up and share generously his wealth of knowledge.

BTW there are others on this forum who have a deep knowledge of Mopar parts and replacements besides just Dan. Stay tuned, and keep an open mind, and you will learn who they are. Eventually you may be one of them. And, you will learn why we play with Mopars. That is a secret I trust you will figure out in time, but you kind of have to figure it out from experience.

Welcome to the forum.

Ya, we just stay away from discussing religion and politics during the holidays. (of course we dread talking to uncle Bob when he has had too much to drink  )
