Were going to build a custom fuel injected intake and run E85. Atleast that's what's on the drawing board at this time.

Cool. My "someday" plan is a Flying Toilet and methanol, but e-85 is looking pretty good too. Only problem I have heard of it is incosistent quality and mixture. |

Ok Guys I thought E85 was the stuff made from corn and only gave you about 80% of the power of gasoline??? My new truck is a FFV and the manual says that if running E85 expect 20% less MPG. Thanks Frank |

That is corrrect, but you can get a lot of that back by raising compression. With E85 the compression ratio can be much higher than would be tolerable with straight gasoline. You can also boost it more than you can when using straight gasoline. As a general purpose motor fuel it doesn't make a lot of sense right now but there could well be some advantages as a race fuel. |

Yep, it is the same principle as methanol. It allows more compression and timing, and that increases torque.

It's got a lower energy density that would make for less power if everything else were equal. But E85 is typically anywhere from 100 to 105 octane, so you don't have to keep everything else equal. The octane means you can run aggressive boost, compression, or timing and make more power that way.

We're also going to switch over our high 11 sec 5140 lb 6.4/392 supercharged Hemi 4x4 truck over to E85. Our aluminum front NSS/A 64 Dodge Race Hemi maybe next as well. |

Thanks Guys I will certainly keep this info in mind for my build. As far as I know E85 is not available here as of yet. I supose that running alki is about the same thing? I really do enjoy learning on this forum!!! Thanks Frank |

Well... I am glad to see that more of you guys are seeing the light about E85. As far as the inconsistancy of the Ethanol content, we have to tune my brother's carb almost every weekend we take it out; But it is no big deal, you would do the same for the weather wouldn't you?? With my planed setup, I am using an ethonal sensor with my MegaSquirt II so that it can sense changes with the seasons and adjust the tables accordingly. (or at least that is how it is suppose to work  )
