Thanks for posting the site Mike, i am sure it will get many visits from me in the future as info for our cars doesn't seem as commonplace as that for A,B,C-bodys e.t.c.

Been a few months since i swapped in an open 8 1/4 with 3.21 gears and even with my tall 28' tires its pretty sweet to drive.

Since i am keeping the 28' tires (new) i might consider a 3.55 sure grip swap in the future. 8)

what gears were you running before the swap?i have 2.76 gears in my 80 and im looking to swap in some taller gears.what kind of difference did you feel?

2.76 same as you, if your running stock tires (195\75\14) you will notice quite the difference in acceleration and around town snap when swapping to a 3.21 gear set.

I just thought I'd add my two cents here. A few years ago, I swapped in an '82 Diplomat cop car 8 & 1/4 diff into my '78 Volare 2-door. The diff came with a 2:94 ratio, but I had a 3:55 ratio installed. Not so great on the highway, but around town it rocks!
Have fun!

. . . but the '65 down ones had the stupid a$$ed 2 piece axles on them; the housing would work alright; but if you got one that old, you'd need to replace the axles. (more $$$$) '66-70 B body.
I believe you're talking about the 62-64 models that you needed to used that special brake drum puller. The 65 B Body 8 & 3/4 is just like the 66-70 8 & 3/4s. It's my understanding that the overall width is slightly less than the 66-70s. Perch to perch distance is still the same though.
