First off I ended my subscripition to Mopar Muscle, it's getting old. I already dealt with XV motorsports (real scam, don't even manufacture anything) and they are MM's golden boys. Next there tech articles are a joke, $2000 for a 318 rebuild without new pistons? Maybe you shouldn't spend half of it on an intake and carb. Last, they openly say they won't do anything with slant six there is no money. They barely do anything with small blocks, it's old tech and fancy pictures. I'm switching over to Popular Hot Rodding, they have had 2 excellent articles on 318 producing 400+hp and decent parts to buy, cause yes I know magazines are another form of advertising. I'm ok with that. I got your metaphor Joshie, I thought it was pretty good. I do a lot of things to my car without the proper "bits" and I've had them turn out pretty well. I got a nice fuel injection set-up and a pretty cool 4 link rear end (don't metion I messed up the perches originally and gave up). Good to hear your first build-up was a mess, I'm chaulking my first motor to a learning curve from v8's and partially no real money. |

What a great set of replies - which just enhances my point - the guys over here think outside of the box - take myself - before I joined up I was a catalog builder - buying of the shelf bits and expecting it to perform Now, I mean good grief - this manifold project - I am learning about casting and making patterns - got me to playing around with making replacement lenses - the US 68 cuda taillight lenses are just to expensive.. Got me to do the brake upgrade I did - Australian CM braking system straight into a US 68 Cuda using he V8/slantsix offset brake booster bracket. This community has thinkers at its core. The V8 performance guys look down on the work horse engines - the slant six and the LA 318 - I own both. The 318 is being treated to slantsix style optimization - get it to breathe better - located a nice cam ..RDP pattern - recurved the dizzy - headwork - and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg - and the car is now frankly very lively...very Optimization - blue printing it, making it more efficient and making more power as a result. From what I have learned here it is not the Changes you make by them self, but the combination of changes that makes the difference. Putting on a 390 Holley on an otherwise stock motor not much of a difference - combine it with a better exhaust not even headers - , recurved HEI powered dizzy proper wires and plugs, and all of a sudden it hauls. throw in a set of headers or Dutras and it will get even better 'nuff rambling! The holes over here are nice and smooth, gasket matched and with recurved dizzys and blue printed oiling systems...with NKG ZFR5N plugs,..and HEI |

[quote="Joshie225"] Even in this community a lot of people seek parts for parts sake and not to reach a HP or ET goal. quote] That explains my Hyper pak on a stock 225 with headers and a 600 Holley... BTW, it goes heaps better than stock, and will be better with more tuning. |

Great discussion as usual. This has got me thinking about my pair-a-cudas, one is a super-clean purpose-built road racer that I picked up as my daily driver when I lived in CA, with a modified 340, and big brakes and differential, etc. The other I bought as a classic New England POS held together by bondo and rust, 3 on the tree /6. Since then, I bought a BH block /6 for $100.00, put in a nice cam and a super 6 intake, and ported the head with a .09 plane job. I also swapped in an OD 4 speed with floor shift. I had to learn how to weld, and bought a MIG welder. In other words, it's been an education. Since the slant car was on the way to the junkyard, I never worried about screwing it up too badly. I don't worry about driving it around town, and as I get older, I don't go as fast anyway. Also, when I get into the V8, it drives me-to go faster. (In Russia, party is looking for you.) Now when I do work on the CA car, I often feel like I know what I'm doing, and won't ruin it. |

Once I have the 600 sorted I am going to borrow a 465 and do a direct comparison. The engine will not be staying stock for too much longer
And Josh YES I agree - |
