Can you use a mechanical lifter head on a hydraulic motor? https://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34864 |

Quote: I put the peanut head on my sons dart and find that it should have the stepped bolt in the rear rocker hole.
This started in the 1979 model year...all stock cast crank slant sixes in 1979-1980 will have that 'stepped' bolt (there was supposedly a small test run of 1978 hydro lifter slants, and I think this bolt design was the result of that small run of engines).Personally I'd run the solid cam and be done with it, about the time you need to check/adjust the lash, you'll need to change the oil anyway... When you pass the bucket my way...go light on the butter! -D.Idiot |

They do. Oil goes up through the rocker shaft, through the rockers and down the pushrods into the lifters. There is no oil galley for the lifters in a slant. Slant six history as printed in the Slant 6 News stated that the extra drilling stations needed for such a galley were seemed too expensive. It would have been pretty cheap and easy to change the block casting, but not to finish the galley.

Does that mean the the hydraulic lifters and the stepped bolt are not linked? If so, then all you need is the hydraulic rockers and rocker arm and you are set. Right? |
