. I have never had an engine overfilled with oil, so i dont know what that does. Im just a wee lad of 21 who's owned a bitchin car for less than a year

If it will do 60 it is running on more than 2 cylinders. If it will idle at all it is hitting on at least 4. While it is idling carefully remove each spark plug wire. Replace any wire that causes the car to idle worse or stall. Leave the ones that make no difference removed. These are you bad cylinders. If all the wires cause an idle change then all your cylinders are firing. You are THIS close to having it run well. Get the thing timed correctly. Then set the valves. (We will deal with that soon.) |

I had a similar problem on my truck and it turned out to be a partially seperated wire on the pick up coil it was enough to run but would sputter and die, especially when starting from stopped. |

Well i bit the bullet and took it to a good shop i was recommended to. Here's what the problem was: Carburator needed a rebuild. Was loose at the bottom so grabbing air. Two screws had gone through the carb into the engine and seized up two cylinders. Had it all replaced. Job done. Need to sort the timing out but at least i have a car. Thanks for all your suggestions. |

Nils, Siezing up means "won't move. If you had two pistons not moving, that didn't happen from two carb screws in the cylinder. Also the engine would not run with two siezed pistons unless the connecting rods were broken or bearing caps off. The sounds of either would instantly make any rational person turn the engine off. So, if someone merely tightened your carburetor but charged you for a engine replacement for "siezed pistons" (you say replaced it all) then you got robbed big time. Did you pay abut $1,200 should have been a one hour shop charge of $65 that took 6 minutes? Most "good shops" probably wouldn't even charge you after observing your age and inexperience. They would do the work to get you conditioned to coming back as you did need work. And if you can get it back, get the so called frozen engine cause there is nothing wrong with it. rock '64d100 |

Nils, Sounds like sabotage......... How can you get two screws inside the engine under normal circumstances? Somebody must have dropped them down your carb. |
