Quote: The lube comments in this thread remind me of the first time my Challenger was serviced. The Shell station across the street from the parts store I drove for at the time (1970s) drained the trans (a 4 speed) and replaced the ATF with 90W gear lube. I was back in less than 15 minutes, it was not even possible to shift the trans with 90W in the box.
Must have been January 31 in North Dakota. Mine shifted perfectly last week with 80w-90.RK |

Never really figured that out on the Challenger. It was 2 years old at the time. Factory 4 speed/340/convertible. After servicing, the trans was so stiff it was undrivable, took it right back, the station owner had them redrain the trans, and refill with ATF and it was fine. I don't know, maybe just that the trans was so new, about 30,000 on the car at that time. |

Well, back when, even engines were loaded with light weight oil for about 500 miles. Never really guessed why. Maybe to put a finish polish on tightly assembled less than perfect machining.I don't know, maybe just that the trans was so new, about 30,000 on the car at that time. RK |
