Hi Dave, you know my car pretty well. I am low 15, and ran a 14 at sac in good conditions, i have it tuned for consistency, probably another tenth available. I have a completely stock ,never rebuilt 225, with offy manifold to a 500 holley 2 barrel ,clifford hedders 3.91 and a rebuilt late trans with a shift kit and a converter rated at 4200 stall. The converter is the key ,sixty foot is 1.94 consistantly,is it ideal no i have about 10 % slippage but it works, tire is 10 x26.5 shift at 4200 around 5200 rpm at the stripe. The other reason i run that is i am only 2300 lbs wet without driver. I could probably make a thousand passes on this combo. If 14,s is your goal take weight off, gear ,converter and make sure it hooks before worrying about hp. Look at the hp /et calculators ,you will be surprised how fast you can go with low hp. |

Thanks Sergio. All good things to take into account and all very valid points. Hopefully when we get it all put together, you can come down to Sac on a test and tune night. Thanks again. PS: Swapped out the rearend with the Demon this weekend. None of my drivelines hook up to the 66 Dart now so off to West Sac tomorrow to have one made. |

Slight change in plans. Pulled off the head last night and noticed that the pistons were marked .040. I can still see the honing marks in the cylinders and there is no slop in the pistons at the top of the cylinder. Since I have to pull the motor anyway to have it decked, I'll take some measurements of the rings, check the bearings and go from there. I expect that the rings are fine so there is no point really to bore out to .060. I believe I said the larger valves were 177 but in fact they will be 170 for intake and 144 for exhaust. So, the only real shop work will be tanking the block and decking it .080. Now I pose the question, will .040 be enough to take advantage of the larger valves? |

Those valves will work very well with 3.440". Slap new rings in and go with it! Lou |

OK, next question. The Offy 4 bbl intake manifold I have only gets about 160 cfm. I want to get to at least 185 without doing a lot of machining. Do any of you have any specs on the various manifolds out there? |
