Got all the leaks stopped and I've been driving the truck for the past couple of days. It ain't no rocket ( I wasn't expecting it be) but it is certainly a lot stronger. I also did it "right" this time and put the nice shiny super six decal on my air cleaner. I've still got a few bugs to work out and a distributor recurve to do.

Slow and steady wins the race. Looking good! Do you have the cold air intake hooked up?

No the cold air intake is not hooked up. The snorkel on the 318 air cleaner base is in the wrong location for it. Plus somebody had already removed the cold air tube from truck (including the scoop that the hose mounted to).

The only thing that is REALLY getting on my nerves is that stupid lockup TC. I'm so used to the one on my C-10 locking in at 45 mph, whereas this one locks in at 35 MPH every time. Also the fact that the 727 isn't as "responsive" as the 904 in my Duster, which I think was pretty much perfect.

Is the lockup module on the top or bottom of the valvebody? A spring change is looking better every day.

Lockup module is on the top of the valve body. Before you go that far, I strongly recommend you adjust the bands and change the fluid to ATF+4.

It is possible to completely disable the lockup feature, but I wouldn't recommend it for a daily driver. I tell how HERE. Again, I don't recommend completely disabling the lockup feature unless you have tried other cures. Replacing the lockup spring is very easy to do.

Have you tried installing a shift kit? The Transgo TF SK is a great kit and is easy to install. I put one in the 904T in my brother's van and I am very happy with how it has worked out.

Rob, I still have the Duster

Reed, I just changed my filter/fluid and adjusted the bands. I'm currently running Dex III in it. I don't want to disable the lockup, just delay it's engagement.

As for the shift kit, this trans has been rebuilt/butchered before (lots of helicoils). I have no clue if a shift kit was installed since that was before my time and it has such a harsh reverse engagement. God knows what they did to this thing. No matter how much I adjust the kickdown, it still "hangs" in second gear when nailed to the floor.

Well, Dexron III was never recommended for the torqueflite. I would flush the fluid and fill with ATF+4 and then start looking for a 904 or another 727, unless you are willing to tear yours all the way down and go through it with a fine toothed comb and see what has been done.

Have you confirmed that you have a part throttle kickdown module? Some 80s era 727s were built without part-throttle kickdown (even some 80s era 904s).

Frankly, unless you haul heavy loads often, a 727 is overkill in a slant six vehicle. I strongly recommend you get a 904T with the wide gear ratio. You will need a longer driveshaft, but you can grab that from the donor truck. The 904T is a lockup, and the lower 1st and second gears will help your big heavy pickup get moving a bit quicker.

It may not have been Dex III. I can't remember what it was off the top of my head but I do remember it saying Dex/Merc on the dipstick. I can assure you it's what it said on the dipstick. Besides Uncle Dan says Dexron is Dexron.

Yes, I have part throttle kickdown

Yeah I know it's overkill but it's not going anywhere until it ceases to function. I looked at the shift kit you suggested and all the problems it cures are the problems my trans has (mushy 1-2 shift, late 2-3 shift, premature lockup). Looks like I'm getting a shift kit.

Should I get the Superior TF-TC or the Transgo TF-SC? The main thing I'm after is the converter lockup speed.
