Go for it Lou! As for another 50 point race at Mason Dixon we shall see. The Covalt clan will do its part by putting 6 cars on the line. The other 11 is up to the rest of you. Time will tell!Rick |

Linda suggested I leave her home and make the run down to Redding with Fopar. She's allergic to something out at the track, so gets sick whenever we go there. Still not sure it's worth the heat of Redding this time of year. Medford was miserable, Redding will be just a couple degrees cooler than Hades, and no water on the site. We drove into 70° weather in the valley which was a welcome relief! We'll think about it. I'd need to take time off again. Pretty much got my vacation bottomed out for the year already. CJ |

You've already got three 40 point races (Woodburn in June and Medford X2) and two 30 pointers (Samoa and Woodburn in August), so you'd have to win 4 rounds to be able to better your current standings (replacing 30 pointers with 40 pointers)... Of course, you'd get the two attendance points... I think you're safe. Stay home with Linda and sit on that nice front porch. |

I wonder if that's already an all time high points total for Slant 6 racing (5 race total)?? Great for 8 races attended too. Lou |

It looks like Gordie Stevens retains the honor of earning the most annual points in 2001.Lou However, In 2002 we started the attendance points and 10 points for each round win. For 1999-2001 points were calculated differently. In the 2002 - 2011 "Best 4 / Max of 7" days, it's Glen Terry with the honors in 2009. CJ has set the bar nice and high in this "Next Evolution" of Slant 6 Drag Racing! The "Early Years" 1999 - Ron Hamby: 240 - 50 (Over 4) = 190 2000 - Ron Parker: 170-20=150 2001 - Gordie Stevens: 280-50=230 Best 4 / Max of 7 2002 - Ron Hamby: 198-30 (Over 4)=168 2003 - Ron Hamby: 208-30=178 2004 - Dale Rose: 208-50=158 2005 - Rodney Hargis: 176-20=156 2006 - Norman Foster: 198-51=147 2007 - Glen Terry: 195-30=165 2008 - Glen Terry: 197-40=157 2009 - Glen Terry: 249-72=177 2010 - Meril Bruner: 104-0=104 2011 - Wendy Pine: 127-0=127 Best 5 / No Max 2012 - CJ Stoakes: 218-30 (Over 5) =188 (Tentative) The old rules allowed 4 races and up to 7 for "attendance points". That's why you see Glen Terry giving up a whopping 72 points in 2009. He attended 9 races and had to give up two 20 pointers, one 30 pointer and two attendance points! I will have to look in my old SSRNs to figure out the point calculations for those first three years unless someone else remembers and can post here. There were 60 and 70 point races with as few as 9 cars in attendance... |

Post subject: | Medford Results posted |
Not many details on the Medford race to glean from various posts, but there were 10 racers on hand battling the heat at Medford. CJ Stoakes has, in my mind, pretty much locked up the 2012 National Championship by winning both days at Medford. He has a commanding lead over the number two spot. Andrew Howard climbed back up to second by winning three rounds on Saturday. Unfortunately, the heat got to PJ causing her and Edd to head home early Sunday morning. She's now just one point behind Andrew Howard in third. Last year's Champion, Wendy Pine, was there with husband and crew chief Bruce. She won two rounds Saturday to round out the "Killer Bee Juggernaut" on the top spots at #6. The Ericksons showed up in force at Medford with three racers. Each won a round on Saturday. Aric jumped on the scene this year at Samoa to win both days and maintains his high standing at #5. Mark Murray was runner up on Sunday and lands in the #14 spot. "Fopar" as the other half of Tyrde-Browne racing was there to back up CJ in his ever present antics... Specimen bottle in hand... Sergio Gonzales either bought or put together something with a Slant 6 in it to get on the board for 2012. Here's the list: CJ Stoakes - 218 Andrew Howard - 108 PJ Jesiolowski - 107 Allen Dutra - 95 Aric Erickson - 94 Wendy Pine - 88 Frank Funk (Rookie) - 72 Charlie Schmid - 67 Lou Madsen - 59 Doug Dutra - 55 Phil Stoneback - 52 Mark Etheridge - 52 Richard Bjerklund - 48 Mark Murray - 44 Scott Jones - 41 Will Burns - 37 Seymour Pederson - 31 Mike Keller - 31 Mike Bjerklund - 26 Walt Skoczylas (Rookie) - 23 Rob Armstrong - 23 Doug Powers - 23 Ken Kalis (Rookie) - 22 Brian Mimken - 22 Denny Covalt - 22 Randy Ashley - 22 Mike Evans - 21 Ryan Covalt - 21 Ken Anderson - 21 Whitney Covalt - 21 Frank Wright - 14 Dave Mueller - 13 Bruce Pine - 12 David Endres - 12 Brian Droschak - 12 Romeo Furio - 12 Wayne Erickson - 12 David Erickson - 12 A. Spiva (Rookie) - 11 Emily Booker (Rookie) - 11 Denny Buierl (Rookie) - 11 Greg Ondayko - 11 Rick Covalt - 2 Micah Covalt - 2 Aaron Heath - 2 Steve Adams (Rookie) - 2 Chase Simmons (Rookie) - 2 Sergio Gonzales - 2 Brent Laney - 1 Haliegh Laney (Rookie) - 1 Austin Goodman (Rookie) - 1 Jerry Keltner (Rookie) - 1 Kevin Esteb (Rookie) - 1 Charles Brooks Jr. - 1 Kevin Bradford (Rookie) - 1 Darrin Marrion (Rookie) - 1 Joe Pettis (Rookie) - 1 With two East Coast races rained out this year it will be pretty difficult for anyone East of the Mississippi to catch CJ. Rookie and first time Slant 6 racer Frank Funk stands the best chance with 72 points. It is feasible that Frank could win enough rounds at the six remaining East Coast races to catch CJ. He towed all the way from Pennsylvania to Knoxville with Ryan Covalt, so that shows that he wants it. Frank would have to win 4 rounds at three races to make it happen. Lou Madsen posted his interest in trying at a run for the Championship after winning one of the races at Woodburn. Lou currently sits at 54 points (59 once his bonus points for setting a record are added ) Lou will have to win 4 rounds at two races and 3 rounds at two races to get there. Without that 5 bonus points it would have to be three 4 rounders and one 3 rounder. [EDIT: Lou's record was posted. I added the 5 points. He now has 59. ] Where are the other top East Coasters' names this year like Ron Hamby, Meril and Gary Bruner, Rodney Hargis...? They haven't been able to race yet because of the rain outs. Charlie Schmid is the #2 East Coaster at the moment, but after towing two cars all the way from Florida to Knoxville to get rained out, he does not intent to tow all the way back up again for the remaining races. Wouldn't it be exciting to see one or more of these East Coasters win a bunch or rounds and chase down points leader CJ Stoakes? I predicted early on that the "Traveling Trophy" would stay out West this year, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if someone proved me wrong on that. With only the Redding race remaining for the Killer Bees, it looks to me like only Andrew Howard and PJ Jesiolowski stand a chance at catching CJ and they would have to win four rounds both days to make it happen! Redding was a 50 point race in 2007 and 2008, so that could happen too. |

19 Rookies this year! (21 if you count Mike Andreas and Andrew Shank that got rained out at Elk Creek and Knoxville...) Quite a few "Next Generation Young Guns" started their Slant 6 racing careers this year. Courtney Bruner started the trend last year. This year last names like Goodman, Laney, Howard and Simmons are carrying on the torch. Andrew "Kidd" Howard got two new Howards on the list this year! Chase is just one career point behind me with his two from Woodburn. I'll have to actually win a round or two at Clay City to stay ahead of him. |

Post subject: | Rain Out Points Clarification Update: |
I got clarification on Participation Points for cancelled races. Racers that are in the pits and ready to race for an event that is cancelled still get the participation point for their efforts in coming to the race. I have added in the participation points for those racers that were at both Elk Creek and Knoxville. That brings our official total Rookie count for this year to a whopping 21! (It also gives me another 2 point lead over Chase. ) Total Racer count so far this year is 74! Already 3 more than last year and just 2 shy of 2010. Our two best years were 2007 and 2008 when we had 85 racers each year. We've still got Clay City and Mason-Dixon races to go on the East Coast. It sure would be nice to see some more new faces show up along with those folks that haven't raced with us in awhile... Just think - If we just got 3 new folks to show up at each of these two races it would put 2012 at an even 80 racers for the third highest car count in Slant 6 racing history! C'mon folks like: Alanna Hargis - Get that radiator issue worked out on that Lancer! Howard Davis - Get those teething issues worked out on that new Billet engine! (And call Barry Harrison to rattle his cage and convince him to come to Clay City) Dennis Schumers - Borrow that Dart and come to Clay City! Ron Parker - Fix that windshield and come to Clay City! Wayne Venable (Cookie) - Ummm,... Uhhh,... Hmmm,... I just don't know what to say... I know Rick Covalt and the Covalt Clan is much better at recruiting new folks than I am, so I'll leave it to you to shake the bushes for Mason-Dixon. Here is the updated list: CJ Stoakes - 260 - 70(Over 5) = 190 Andrew Howard - 160 - 20(Over5) = 140 Allen Dutra - 117 PJ Jesiolowski - 109 Aric Erickson - 106 Wendy Pine - 90 Doug Dutra - 77 Frank Funk (Rookie) - 74 Richard Bjerklund - 70 Charlie Schmid - 69 Mark Murray - 66 Lou Madsen - 61 Lukus Bruner - 54 Phil Stoneback - 52 Mark Etheridge - 52 Ron Hamby - 46 Jack Everhardt (Rookie) - 46 Brian Mimken - 44 Sergio Gonzales - 43 Scott Jones - 41 Jessica Howard (Rookie) - 41 Will Burns - 37 Wayne Erickson - 34 Rodney Hargis - 34 Seymour Pederson - 31 Mike Keller - 31 Mike Bjerklund - 26 Frank Wright - 26 Ryan Covalt - 25 Walt Skoczylas (Rookie) - 23 Rob Armstrong - 23 Doug Powers - 23 Mark Charapich - 23 Whitney Covalt - 23 Ken Kalis (Rookie) - 22 Denny Covalt - 22 Randy Ashley - 22 Mike Evans - 21 Ken Anderson - 21 Meril Bruner - 16 Gary Bruner - 16 Dave Mueller - 13 Bruce Pine - 12 David Endres - 12 Brian Droschak - 12 Romeo Furio - 12 David Erickson - 12 Curtis Prater (Rookie) - 12 Greg Ondayko - 12 A. Spiva (Rookie) - 11 Emily Booker (Rookie) - 11 Denny Buierl (Rookie) - 11 Steve Adams (Rookie) - 4 Courtney Bruner - 4 Rick Covalt - 2 Micah Covalt - 2 Aaron Heath - 2 Chase Simmons (Rookie) - 2 Larry Chesney - 2 Norm Foster - 2 Mike Andreas (Rookie) - 2 Andrew Shank (Rookie - 2 Rob Simmons - 2 Brent Laney - 1 Haliegh Laney (Rookie) - 1 Austin Goodman (Rookie) - 1 Jerry Keltner (Rookie) - 1 Kevin Esteb (Rookie) - 1 Charles Brooks Jr. - 1 Kevin Bradford (Rookie) - 1 Darrin Marrion (Rookie) - 1 Seth Howard (Rookie) - 1 Joe Pettis (Rookie) - 1 Terry Scott - 1 |

Post subject: | Clay City DID NOT get rained out!! :-) |
With a 60-70% chance of rain forecasted the week before Clay City, we were all thinking it would be a THIRD East Coast Rain Out... But it WASN'T!! I'll update the points tomorrow, but some highlights for now...: Lou Madsen was there with "V2" and climbed the ladder by a couple spots with his win on Saturday. He is now the East Coast Leader with 93 points. That puts him in 6th place overall. Lukus Bruner added 12 points to tie with Mark Murray from the Killer Bees at 66. He drove "SlantKota II" for a weekend of relaxed racing rather than towing "Half Hemi". Rookie Jack Everhardt was there with his son Jackie as crew chief. Jack added 12 points and is now at 58. He commented Sunday that now he HAS to go to Mason-Dixon to take on Rookie Frank Funk for Rookie of the Year honors! The Old Fox Meril Bruner was on hand, as usual, with wife Ella and his Hemi Orange "FunnyTruck". Meril added 42 points to his total with Runner-Up finishes both days. That puts him at 58 to tie with Jack Everhardt. Gary and daughter Courtney Bruner shared driving with their '64 Valiant post car. Gary's familiar red "El Desperado" '64 Valiant isn't back together yet. Gary won a round on Sunday to add 11 points to his total. Courtney added another point to hers as well on Saturday. Gary put a little hotter engine in the car and it now runs in the mid 18s versus the low 20's from last year. Rookie Chase Simmons was there with his '74 Duster affectionately named "Stella". He and his dad bought the car in California and drove it back to Kentucky on a father/son Road Trip in June. Stella was also the "tow rig" for his dad's '74 "GodsRods Duster II", dolly towing it the 125 miles to the track and back. Chase made 20 passes over the weekend honing his skills and looking for that "sweet spot" on the christmas tree. His best pass of the weekend was in Super ET where he cut a .088 light and ran a 19.08 as he lifted at the finish. Chase added 2 points this weekend and is ready for some more local test & tunes. Rob Simmons was finally able to have something together enough to win a couple rounds this weekend and added 42 points with a round win on Saturday and the event win on Sunday. Rounding out the Clay City Contingent and bumping the car count up to an even 8 for Sunday was Nick Stavale driving down from Cincinatti, Ohio in his 60K mile '72 Valiant 4 door. A really sweet ride with original black and white paint job. Nick is interested in starting a Slant 6 race near his home in Cincinatti. We'll be talking about that at the annual East Coast awards banquet in February. |
