Fram on some of the Cummins would void the warranty. There is some jets that spray the underside of the piston. Fram wouldn't allow it.

I don't have firsthand knowledge, but I understand there have been racetracks that have banned Fram filters because they don't want the track slicked down when a Fram filter lets go. And I also understand there have been instances (including Chrysler 2.2 engines) of Fram filters having too short/small a filter element, so much too short and with such flimsy paperboard end caps that when the oil would get hot enough the end caps would bow inward and block off the oil flow, failing the engine.

Even if I assume these stories are bogus, I am forced to wonder why I never hear or read them about other filter brands.

When the Dart ate the crank it had a Fram on it when I bought it. I then put on a Pure1 30001. Neither filter caused the bearings to self destruct. It was a shop rag in the oil pick up. This is just for a historical foot note.

I ripped open the Fram Extra "garb," it was easy to unravel. I had to cut the ends off the Pure as it was bonded in tight.

Must be based on the fact that saying "Fram" is a lot easier than saying "Purolator"...

Yeah, I can get into that…but it doesn't explain "Wix"!

OK guys, a few weeks later, and after noting not much improvement at idle- I decided to add more to the spring, which gave me 75psi at start up vs 50ish. After further pondering and allowing it all to set in my mind, I would have to say the #1 cause of my low psi at warm idle is likely main bearings. 95,000 miles of mostly unknown history doesnt help. At any rate, I'm going back to no spacers, and call it good. Would I like to see higher oil psi ? Yes. Will the lower psi kill my slant ? Likely not. It's a daily driver- period. If my gauge ever decides to drop to zero psi and my engine gasps it's last breath, then I'll do something about it. Until then, I'll drive it like I have every other slant I've owned.

Anyone remember the (Slick 50 ? I can't remember) commercials where they drained the oil and everyone is in amazement that the engine can run without oil ?? That's right - it was a slant 6.
