Up to 2.5 mpg. from the winter gas mix, longer warm ups, and a lot of short hops. My worst mileage this winter has been 22.5 mpg for local stop and go in the snow and ice. On longer commutes it has been running 24.2 to 24.5.During the spring and summer it jumps back up to 25+ mpg. |

Does anyone think it could be a thermostat issue. The car takes forever to warm up in the winter and was on the virge of overheating on the hwy. Has 19" core |

As a reference: My car starts to heat up in about two miles when it's in the low 40's. When it's in the low twenties it takes about 3 to 4 miles. That is with out having the fan blow over the engine. I run two electric fans and they rarely come on in the winter months. I also run a 180 Stat year round. Sounds like you need to flush the block with the upper and lower radiator hose pulled. Why? So you don't plug up your radiator core.... Then separately flush the heater core reversing the direction every 2 minutes. Don't let it just dump on the ground, put a catch pan under it so you observe all the debris. A one way flush doesn't really loosen the crud. You need to go both ways at least 6 times. I do this every year and am shocked at all the odd stuff that comes loose and out of the system. It's like panning for gold....and I run antifreeze all year round! |
