Quote: Quote: Please give me good news. I hope its original and the 145hp version.
All 225's make about the same power. What you are mistaking for less powerful engine starting around 1972 is just the way engine output was calculated as dictated by, I think, can't recall exactly, it was American Society of Engineers; ASE. This revised method became the new standard which American engine output has been measured until recently; I believe the formula was tweaked again. (someone with clearer head may chime in on this... I hope)Pre 72 (or so) output was measured with just engine and maybe water pump, post 72 or so accessory losses were factored into calculations. Such as power steering alternator etc. those devices take energy to turn which subtracts from that 145 HP you are seeing listed as stock output. Factor in the drive train and these engines in stock tune they only make about 95 hp. at the rear wheels. If you want a true 145 hp, and stock torque number as listed in the old literature at the rear wheels, one needs to make some changes to compression, cam, carburetor, head breathing, and exhaust size. Mine don't have power steering, wished it did..LOL I would like some more power. Not a ton, but maybe 50hp would be nice. I seen the dual manifolds, intakes...etc. I am sure some different rear gears would help. When I took it for inspection today, my buddy looked under the car and said it was a 8 3/4 if that is good? He told me its not a hard job to change the gearing. I didn't see no pumpkin cover with bolts, so I didn't know what it was. But I guess he knew he is a Mopar Nut! |

Already Started Back to work. The RG Means it's a raised G Block. 170 is a G Block. 198's and 225's are taller therefore raised... RG. Not sure about all the other Numbers and Colors.. With a 50 Year old Car Stuff happens and gets swapped here and there. Have fun with it. Greg |

Tony- How is your B-body /6 coming along? I just happen to catch this post. I also have an early (1963) Dodge 330 B-body with a 225 /6. |
