Quote: and misfiring
thanks, good tips,,there area couple things I want to check today 1) pull the spark plugs, see if they look lean or rich 2) the bosch sensor for the AF is mounted near the exit of the collector on the long tube headers I am using. I have a set of header extensions, they were not installed for this initial start up, I'll install those today. 3) go back through the setting - trouble shoot tests on the IAC after that it is on the required fuel -as suggested. |

photo of the spark plugs https://www.flickr.com/photos/13718356@ ... ed-public/ the plugs were not new, but were clean prior to 10 to 15 minutes of engine run time, and here is a video of a test I ran on the AEM and MS air/fuel ratio monitoring system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IS-Am_ZQliw the two gauges do not display the exact same values, but both display very low scale numbers during very rich test conditions and very high scale numbers during very lean test conditions,, my conclusion is the AF monitoring is functioning. I have reinstalled the header extensions that I had on the car previous to installing the FI, without the extensions present I believe there was enough reversion at the collector flange to make the AF sensor read lean. Have the TB off the motor and the IAC unit out of the TB, I want to do some manual tests to verify that the IAC functioning correctly. |

I have had little luck with O2 sensors and open headers....an extension or longer exhaust and mufflers helped a lot. There is a formula for exhaust extension which I have used in the past....but its location escapes me at the moment. |

Yes, you definitely need a (non-leaking) exhaust with any O2 sensor to get accurate readings. 3-6 ft beyond the sensor location??? Lou |

put the header extensions on, they are about a foot in length, that seems to be enough length to prevent air from reaching the bosch sensor except when off throttle also changed the settings for the IAC valve, I still need to do more with that, but the idle rpm is now in the 900 range with the motor hot, I'll let the motor cool down and do a start from 70 F spring weather tomorrow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91iMHMzZeaY |
