You have to measure at the lifter to get numbers that agree with the cam card specs. I ran myself in circles with this because almost all my engine experience is with motorcycles where cam specs are expressed in VALVE timing. The slant cam specs are expressed in CAM timing and have to be measured at the lifter. Apparently, we are just supposed to know this because it isn't usually specified anywhere. Anyhow, take out the pushrods and measure timing events at the lifter and you will get data you can actually use to dial in the cam and DCR. |

You can take the rocker assembly off and leave one pushrod in place as long as you have a way to keep it straight in it's path on the lifter as the camshaft rotates that way you can use a magnetic base and dial indicator....Typically I do the cam degreeing before the head goes on, the deck makes a nice flat surface for the magnetic base. |

When I degreed the cam the head was off. I used a magnetic stand and pushrod that was straight/parallel with lifter. Even if I measured the intake closing point at valve I'm pretty sure that I'm all good. Because I should have turned the engine until the lash was back to 0.020" and I guess then that the numbers would have been closer to 220 degrees after TDC. Even if this method I used to measure intake closing point is wrong, I learned how I should do it right next time thanks to you guys |
